Overview of MySQL 5.7 Replication Methods and Types
MySQL 5.7 supports several replication methods and synchronization types:
Replication Methods:
- BinLog File Position Based: Traditional method relying on binary log files and specific positions to maintain sync.
- GTID Based: Modern method using Global Transaction Identifiers (GTIDs).
Synchronization Types:
- Asynchronous: The default mode.
- Synchronous: Available only in NDB clusters.
- Semi-synchronous: A supplement to asynchronous replication where the master blocks a commit until at least one slave acknowledges receipt and logging of the transaction events.
- Delayed Replication: The slave deliberately lags behind the master by a specified amount of time.
Replication Formats:
- SBR (Statement Based Replication): Replicates the SQL statements.
- RBR (Row Based Replication): Replicates the actual changes to individual rows.
- MBR (Mixed Based Replication): A combination of both SBR and RBR.
