What's inside Postcode Shipping

  1. Overview of the Visual Region Editor

The Visual Region Editor provides a map-based interface for creating and managing shipping regions. It allows users to visually select areas on a map, use presets for common groupings, and see real-time coverage. It is currently available for shipping zones containing only one of the following countries: Great Britain (GB), United States (US), or Australia (AU). Multi-country shipping zones must use the standard region editor.
  2. Overview of the Postcode Shipping app proxy

The Postcode Shipping app proxy provides a secure way to make requests to the app from JavaScript within a Shopify theme. Because the proxy URL is part of the store's own domain, it avoids Cross-Origin Resource Sharing (CORS) blocks and eliminates the need for API keys, as Shopify handles the authentication automatically.

    Default proxy URL: https://your-store.myshopify.com/apps/postcode-shipping

  3. Overview of Global Modifiers

Global Modifiers allow you to apply temporary or long-term changes to all shipping rates without modifying each rate individually. They are ideal for promotional markups or reductions (e.g., 50% off shipping for orders over $30). Key capabilities include:

    • Increasing or decreasing rate prices by a fixed amount or percentage.
    • Modifying or replacing existing rate descriptions.
    • Setting conditional rules to determine when the modifier is applied.
  4. Overview of available Region Rule types

Depending on the target area (from individual postcodes to large regions), use the following rule types:

    • Single Rules: Exact match for a whole postcode.
    • Range Rules: Targets numerical postcodes within a specific numerical range.
    • Wildcard Rules: Matches the first part of a postcode exactly.
    • Wildcard-range Rules: Matches partial postcodes that fall within a given range.
    • Area Rules: Matches against various parts of the destination address.
  5. Understand Shipping Insurance Widget functionality and limitations

The Shipping Insurance Widget adds a toggle switch to the storefront (typically the cart page) that allows customers to add a shipping insurance charge to their order.

CRITICAL: This widget is a payment collection tool only. It does not provide actual insurance coverage. The merchant is responsible for:

    • Arranging actual insurance with a carrier or provider.
    • Handling all claims and lost shipment issues.
    • Ensuring legal compliance regarding insurance charges in their jurisdiction.
  6. Understand and resolve Rate Rule Gap Analysis alerts

Rate Rule Gap Analysis automatically monitors shipping rates within a region to detect logical gaps where cart conditions (weight, value, quantity, or product groups) are not covered by any rule. If a gap exists, customers matching those conditions will receive no shipping rates at checkout and cannot complete their order.

Analysis is triggered automatically when you:

    • Create a new rate
    • Edit an existing rate
    • Duplicate a rate
    • Delete a rate

Alerts appear on the region edit page above the rates list. Warning tones indicate critical gaps likely to cause checkout failures, while info tones indicate potential issues.

  7. Understand how Shipping Rates are applied to orders

A Rate is a shipping price associated with a specific Region. When an order is placed, the system matches the destination address to a Shipping Zone and one or more Regions. The system then returns the Rates associated with those matching Regions. The specific Rate displayed to the customer can vary based on optional conditions configured for each Rate.
  8. Understand Postcode Shipping integration with traditional carriers

Postcode Shipping does not automatically integrate live rates from traditional shipping carriers such as UPS, TNT, FedEx, or Australia Post. The platform is designed to provide more control over shipping prices and complex pricing tiers than these carriers or Shopify offer. To use rates from a traditional shipping carrier, you must load those rates into Postcode Shipping manually.
  9. Use Postcode Shipping with Shopify Markets

Postcode Shipping is compatible with Shopify Markets. Shipping rates are configured using the store's primary currency. When a customer checks out via Shopify Markets, Shopify automatically handles the conversion of these rates into the customer's local currency. The Postcode Shipping app does not manage or influence the currency conversion process; it is handled entirely by Shopify.
  10. Understand and configure Shipping Zones in Postcode Shipping

A Shipping Zone is a grouping of one or more countries used to define where specific shipping rates apply. You can select individual countries to form a zone or create 'catchall' zones (e.g., 'Rest of World') that include all countries not already assigned to another zone. Once Shipping Zones are established, you can define specific Regions and Rates within them.
  11. Understand how Regions function in Shipping Zones

A Region is a set of rules used to target specific geographic areas within the countries that comprise a Shipping Zone. When an order is placed with a destination address in a country covered by a Shipping Zone, the system evaluates the defined Regions to determine which shipping Rates should be applied. Regions provide flexibility by allowing targeting at various scales, ranging from a single postcode to an entire country.
