Overview of AMBA Bus Family
The ARM AMBA (Advanced Microcontroller Bus Architecture) provides a suite of protocols for different SoC needs:
- APB (Advanced Peripheral Bus): Low power, for simple peripherals.
- AHB (Advanced High-performance Bus): High performance, supports pipelining and bursts (CPU, RAM, DMA).
- AXI (Advanced eXtensible Interface): High-performance interface with five independent channels for read/write and out-of-order support.
- ASB (Advanced System Bus): Legacy high-performance bus.
- ACE (AXI Coherency Extensions): Adds hardware coherency for multi-core systems.
- CHI (Coherent Hub Interface): Layered architecture for high-scale coherency hubs.
