  1. Connect 2.4GHz-only IoT devices to Google Nest Wifi

    Google Wifi, Nest Wifi, and Nest Wifi Pro combine all frequency bands into a single SSID and do not provide settings to separate them (e.g., creating a dedicated 2.4GHz SSID). This can cause issues when setting up IoT devices that only support 2.4GHz.

    Before attempting workarounds, verify the following:

    • SSID/Password Compatibility: Ensure the network name and password use characters supported by the IoT device. It is recommended to use only a-z and avoid whitespace in the SSID or password.
    • Alternative Setup: Check if the IoT device has alternative setup procedures if the standard method fails.
  2. Name Azure Subnets using the custom scheme

    Subnets are not visible in the general Azure resource overview, allowing for shorter, more concise names. Use the purpose of the subnet followed by the -snet suffix.
    Scheme: <purpose>-snet
    Example: ingress-snet
  3. Boot nVidia Shield Android TV into bootloader/fastboot mode

    There are two ways to enter bootloader mode:

    Method 1: Using ADB If the device is booted and USB Debugging is enabled (Settings > About > press Build Number repeatedly), run the following command: adb reboot bootloader

    Method 2: Manual Hardware Method

    1. Power down the Shield and unplug the power cable.
    2. Connect a USB cable from the Shield's USB Micro port to a computer.
    3. Ensure HDMI is connected to a powered-on monitor/TV on the correct input.
    4. Hold the power button while inserting the power cable.
    5. Release the power button immediately once the bootloader mode screen appears.
    adb reboot bootloader
  4. Use Microsoft Artifact Registry (MAR) for Microsoft modules

    Microsoft provides some PowerShell modules via the Microsoft Artifact Registry (MAR/MCR). This requires PSResourceGet v1.1.0 or later. MAR is supported as a ContainerRegistry repository type.
    # Register MAR as a PSResourceGet resource repository
    Register-PSResourceRepository -Name 'MAR' -Uri 'https://mcr.microsoft.com/' `
        -ApiVersion 'ContainerRegistry' -Priority 60

    # Find a module with it
    Find-PSresource -Repository 'MAR' -Name 'Az.Resources' | Format-List
  5. Install Docusaurus and generate a new site

    To create a new Docusaurus site using the classic template, run the npm init command. This process automatically adds the classic template to your project and installs all necessary dependencies.

    Prerequisites: Node.js version 18.0 or above is required. It is recommended to install all suggested dependencies during the Node.js installation process.

    npm init docusaurus@latest my-website classic
  6. Use a temporary hotspot to set up 2.4GHz IoT devices

    If an IoT device fails to connect to Nest Wifi because it requires a dedicated 2.4GHz network, you can trick the device into remembering the credentials using a temporary hotspot with the exact same SSID and password as your Nest Wifi network.

    Method 1: Using a Computer (Windows/MacOS)

    1. Temporarily rename your Nest Wifi SSID.
    2. Connect your laptop to the Nest Wifi via Ethernet.
    3. Create a 2.4GHz-only hotspot on the laptop using the original Nest Wifi SSID and password.
    4. Connect your phone and the IoT device to this hotspot and complete the setup.
    5. Rename the Nest Wifi network back to its original name and disable the hotspot. The IoT device should then migrate to the Nest Wifi network.

    Method 2: Using an Old Router or Mobile Device

    1. Power off the Nest Wifi network.
    2. Create a 2.4GHz-only hotspot using an old router (via WAN port), a phone (via SIM/mobile data), or a PC (via Ethernet/USB tethering). Use the exact same SSID and password as the Nest Wifi network.
    3. Connect the IoT devices to this temporary hotspot.
    4. Disable the temporary hotspot and power on the Nest Wifi. The devices should automatically connect to the Nest Wifi.
  7. Manually update Samsung 990 Pro firmware when Samsung Magician fails

    If the Samsung Magician application cannot update the firmware of a Samsung 990 Pro (e.g., updating from 4B2QJXD7 to 6B2QJXD7), you can perform a manual update using a bootable USB drive. This process likely applies to other Samsung NVMe SSD models as well.

    Prerequisites and Warnings

    • Data Backup: Back up all data before proceeding to avoid data loss in case of device bricking.
    • Disk Encryption: Temporarily disable BitLocker or other disk encryption and ensure recovery codes are written down.
    • Secure Boot: Disable Secure Boot in the BIOS settings.
    • USB Drive: The USB memory stick used for this process will be completely erased.

    Step-by-Step Instructions

    1. Download Firmware: Get the latest firmware ISO file from the Samsung Consumer Storage Support page.
    2. Prepare Bootable USB: Use Rufus to flash the ISO to a USB stick. Recommended settings: FAT32 file system and GPT partition table for UEFI computers. (Note: Rufus may warn that the ISO lacks a valid secure boot certificate).
    3. Boot from USB: Restart the PC and boot from the USB stick via the BIOS boot menu or boot order settings.
    4. Execute Update: Follow the on-screen prompts (Y/N questions). The utility will check the current firmware and prompt for an update if a newer version is available.
    5. Reboot: Once the update completes (usually very quickly), reboot the system.
    6. Verification: Verify the update via Samsung Magician or by booting from the USB tool again to check if an update is still available.
    7. Cleanup: Re-enable Secure Boot in BIOS and re-enable any disk encryption (e.g., BitLocker).
    # Install Rufus via Scoop if needed
    scoop install extras/rufus
  8. Update content for specific documentation versions

    Versioned documentation is managed in separate directories. To update a specific version, edit the files within that version's folder in versioned_docs/. To update the upcoming unreleased version, edit the files in the main docs/ folder.

    Example mapping:

    • versioned_docs/version-1.0/hello.md $\rightarrow$ http://localhost:3000/docs/hello
    • docs/hello.md $\rightarrow$ http://localhost:3000/docs/next/hello
  9. Fill oil and fluid for Fox 831 / Float 32 FIT forks

    When servicing or adjusting travel for Fox 831 / Float 32 FIT forks, use the following fluid specifications:

    • Bottom fill: 20ml/cc of Fox Green 10wt (or Fox Gold 20wt depending on specific fork requirements).
    • Top fill: 5mL/cc of Fox Float Fluid.
  10. Use React components in Markdown via MDX

    Docusaurus supports MDX, allowing you to export and use React components directly within your Markdown files to create interactive documentation.
    export const Highlight = ({children, color}) => (
      <span
        style={{
          backgroundColor: color,
          borderRadius: '20px',
          color: '#fff',
          padding: '10px',
          cursor: 'pointer',
        }}
        onClick={() => {
          alert(`You clicked the color ${color} with label ${children}`)
        }}>
        {children}
      </span>
    );
