What's inside Mouse-Cloud

  1. Manage mouse colony data with Mouse-Cloud

Mouse-Cloud is a specialized database for managing mouse colonies, designed to replace error-prone spreadsheets. It provides safeguards against accidental data deletion, prevents naming inconsistencies through pick lists, and maintains relational data (e.g., linking mice to projects, experiments, or samples) more effectively than flat files by using automatic cascading updates and deletes.
  2. Manage mouse colony data with Mouse-Cloud

Mouse-Cloud is a database-driven alternative to spreadsheets (like Excel or Google Sheets) for managing mouse colonies. It addresses common spreadsheet issues such as accidental data deletion, typos in strain names, and the difficulty of tracking relational data (e.g., linking mice to projects, experiments, or samples). Key benefits include automated data consistency, input validation, and granular version control for individual entities.
  3. Manage and filter mice using Cage Cards

Cage cards provide a per-cage view of mice. Each card includes a gray badge in the top right corner indicating the count of male and female mice.

    Available Columns:

    • Regular Cages: Tag, punch, sex, genotype, and age (in months).
    • Breeding Cages: All regular columns plus set up, pregnancy date, litter date, and wean date.

    Filtering and Sorting:

    • Columns can be sorted individually per cage.
    • Filters can be applied by strain, breeding cages, and cage number (multiple cage numbers can be entered separated by commas).
  4. Navigate the Mouse-Cloud lab home page

The Mouse-Cloud home page serves as the primary dashboard for a lab. It features a top toolbar for general page navigation and a central statistics area. The central dashboard contains circular data summaries that act as shortcuts; clicking a circle navigates to a specific data page with a pre-applied filter. For example, clicking the 'breeding' circle redirects the user to the cages page with the 'breeding' column filter active.
  5. Navigate the Mouse-Cloud lab home page

The Mouse-Cloud home page serves as the primary dashboard for a lab. It features a top toolbar for general page navigation and a central statistics area. The central dashboard displays data stats as interactive circles; clicking these circles navigates the user to a specific data page with a pre-applied filter. For example, clicking the 'breeding' circle redirects the user to the cages page with a filter applied to the breeding column.

Filtering: Users can filter the view by strain, breeding cages, and cage number. When filtering by cage number, multiple numbers can be entered separated by commas.

  7. Edit or move a sample in Mouse Cloud

To edit a sample's properties or change its location, navigate to the Samples section and update the sample fields:

    1. Click the Samples link in the top navigation.
    2. Select the specific sample you wish to modify.
    3. Update the necessary fields (e.g., location).
    4. Click the Save button to apply changes.
  8. Add a Weaned Litter

When adding a weaned litter, the pups section requires the following fields:

    • Required: Tag, ear punch, sex, and cage.
    • Optional: Genotype.
    • Cage Selection: The cage field suggests empty cages starting with the lowest cage number, followed by cages with the fewest mice.
    • Adding More Pups: If there are more than 8 pups, use the green Add Row button at the bottom to add more entries.
  9. Print the mice view list

To print the mice view, use the print button located at the top right of the interface. This action opens a print preview that automatically includes all rows in the list, including those that are not currently scrolled into view on the screen.
  10. Print Cage Cards for mouse room use

To ensure the layout is optimized for printing (especially for rooms without internet connectivity), use the dedicated print icon located at the top right of the page. Do not use the browser's native right-click print function, as the dedicated print tool adjusts the layout specifically for cage cards.
