Overview of the 2025 HMDA Filing Instructions Guide (FIG)
The 2025 Filing Instructions Guide (FIG) is the primary resource for institutions filing annual Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) data collected in 2025 with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) in 2026. Filing data with the Bureau is deemed a submission to the appropriate Federal agency for all data collected in or after 2017.Overview of the 2024 HMDA Filing Instructions Guide (FIG)
The 2024 Filing Instructions Guide (FIG) is the primary resource for financial institutions filing annual Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) data collected in 2024 with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (Bureau) in 2025. The guide is divided into four main functional areas:
- Changes to the Submission Process: Summarizes updates to how data is filed.
- File Specifications: Details valid values, loan/application register formatting, and filing procedures.
- Data Specifications: Provides specific instructions on what information must be entered into each data field of the loan/application register, based on Regulation C and the 2015, 2017, and 2018 HMDA Rules.
- Edit Specifications: Lists the required data edits that institutions must perform on HMDA data before submission to the Bureau.
Understand Quarterly Graphs and Filer Requirements
The Quarterly Graphs provide an aggregated view of quarterly filers for the current filing year. A financial institution is required to be a quarterly filer if it reported a combined total of at least 60,000 applications and covered loans (excluding purchased covered loans) for the preceding calendar year.
Note: The institutions and aggregate record data displayed are limited to those designated as quarterly filers for the current calendar year. Consequently, historic data are altered to reflect only current quarterly filers and are not static.
Identify the dataset source for the HMDA Data Browser
The HMDA Data Browser tools (Dataset Filtering, Maps, and Graphs) always use the latest available static dataset (Three Year, One Year, or Snapshot) for the selected year to ensure the information is as up-to-date as possible. As new datasets are published annually, the Data Browser is updated accordingly.Retrieve detailed information for a specific edit
