What's inside Threedium
- Julian NXT is an AI creation system within the Threedium Platform that transforms text and images into production-ready 3D assets. It automates the technical complexity of 3D generation, including text-to-3D generation, image-to-3D conversion, automatic platform optimization, and auto-rigging/segmentation.
Overview of Materials in Threedium Platform
Materials in the Threedium Platform define the visual identity of 3D models, including surface qualities such as color, reflectivity, and texture. They determine how surfaces behave and interact with light to simulate real-world materials like plastic, metal, wood, or glass. Users can assign existing materials or create new ones, adjusting properties ranging from basic color and transparency to advanced Physically Based Rendering (PBR) controls to achieve specific styles or levels of realism.Overview of Specialized Custom Shaders in Threedium
Threedium provides specialized shaders to recreate complex real-life material properties that standard PBR (Physically Based Rendering) settings cannot achieve. These include:
- Diamond Shader: Used for the fractal properties of diamonds and jewelry.
- Fur Shader: Used for varying degrees of fur fluffiness, thickness, and softness.
- Depth-peeling Screen Space Reflections (DpSSr): Used for the light-dispersive properties of fluids.
- Reflector: Used for reflective properties of metallic and one-way-glass materials.
- OpenGL Shaders (GLSL Shaders): Custom-coded options for advanced creative visuals and VFX.
Overview of lighting options in Threedium Platform
The Threedium Platform provides several customizable lighting options to enhance the visual quality and realism of 3D models. Available lighting types include:
- Ambient Light
- Directional Light
- Point Light
- Spotlight
- Hemisphere Light
- Rectangular Area Light
Additionally, the platform supports Environment Maps for simulating realistic global lighting conditions (improving reflections and shadows) and Global Ambient Occlusion (AO) maps to simulate light interaction between objects for added depth and realism.
Overview of Threedium Platform components
Threedium Platform is a 3D creation and deployment system consisting of four primary components:
- Julian NXT: An AI creation system used for generating 3D models from text or images and performing compute-based actions.
- Workspaces: Interactive environments used to edit, configure, and prepare 3D assets for production.
- Projects: Organizational containers used to manage Workspaces and assets for collaboration and delivery.
- Publishing & Analytics: Tools to deploy 3D experiences and monitor how they are used by end users.

Overview of Julian NXT Texturing Tools
The texturing workflow in Julian NXT allows users to manually adjust material properties after the mesh setup is locked. It provides four primary tools to add detail and depth to generated models:
- Texture Creator: Generates new textures based on text or image inputs with quality control options.
- Magic Brush: Enables a paintover using the currently generated texture results.
- Texture Upscale: Increases texture resolution while preserving the original style and detail.
- PBR Generator: Creates PBR (Physically Based Rendering) materials that replicate real-world reflectance for realistic surface rendering.
Note: Activating either the Texture Creator or the Magic Brush will open the Prompt Box mode.
Navigate the 3D Designer Left-side Editor Menu
The Left-side Editor Menu in the 3D Designer interface provides access to settings and options for Features within the Editor tab. It is organized into three primary functional areas:
- Name bar: Shows the name of the current Feature and provides options to Create, Copy, or Clone it.
- Vertical bar: Contains the various connected categories associated with the selected Feature.
- Editing space: The main area where specific settings for the chosen Feature are configured.
Access and navigate the Julian NXT AI Studio
The Julian NXT AI Studio is the dedicated workspace for generating and functionalizing 3D models using integrated AI tools. It is accessed via the 'Julian NXT' button located in the right-side dashboard of the Threedium platform. The interface consists of five primary functional regions:
- Top Toolbar: Merged with platform user navigation; contains AI tool groupings and credit balance information to determine the feasibility of generative AI options.
- Left-side Editor Panel: Contains controls for fine-tuning the output of the selected generative AI tool.
- Right-side Inventory: A chronological store of all created and uploaded assets, including their associated modeling data.
- Bottom Prompt Box: The input area used to translate text descriptions into AI-generated 3D models.
- 3D Space: The central viewport used to display and interact with uploaded or generated 3D models.
Manage assets using the Threedium Designer Library
The Library is a mid-bottom menu used to list, compile, and organize all assets imported into the workspace. It can be toggled (retracted/expanded) using the keyboard shortcut 'L'.
The Library consists of several key areas:
- Search bar with Filter Options: For locating assets quickly.
- Bottom bar: For advanced inter-workspace asset exchange.
- Category and Asset-type filters: For sorting assets.
- Asset storage space: The main area where assets are displayed.
- Asset-info space: Displays the file type, size, and current status of the asset within the scene.
Use Reflector Material for metallic surfaces
The Reflector Material is used to simulate a highly metallic and reflective look by automatically projecting Scene entities onto a surface. It is commonly applied to the Ground Plane to improve the ambiance and quality of product presentations. The material's appearance is controlled via two primary parameters: Transparency and Sharpness of reflections.Use Screen Space Ambient Occlusion (SSAO) for depth
SSAO is a real-time rendering technique that simulates how ambient light is occluded by nearby geometry. It enhances the depth and contour of objects by adding indirect shadowing to nooks and crannies. Because it is calculated in real-time (screen-space), it responds dynamically to lighting, camera position, and geometry changes, though it may impact frame rates on lower-end hardware.
