https://docs.zapbi.comDocumentation for Zap Data Hub, a platform for data modeling and analytics. It includes guides on using the Data Hub interface, creating pipelines for data transformation, configuring data gateways, and building analysis reports with charts and tables. The platform features Zap AI for context-aware assistance, Zap Live for Excel integration, and various connectors for sources like SAP Business One, Sage X3, SQLite, and Toggl.
What's inside Zap
- Zap Data Hub provides 'solutions', which are pre-packaged data models designed to help users maximize the value of their CRM or ERP systems. Each solution includes pre-built analytics compatible with Zap Anlytics and Power BI, providing an immediate comprehensive overview of the connected data.
Overview of ZapBI Analytic Functions
Functions in ZapBI are named calculations that take input fields as arguments and return a value, set, or member. These results can be used in custom formulas, calculated members, or as inputs to other functions. Functions are accessible via the Resource Explorer, the right-click menu on analysis columns/rows placeholders, or within a calculated member function placeholder.Overview of Data Hub authentication providers
Data Hub supports several authentication methods to manage user access:
- Active Directory (Windows): Default configuration. Recognizes local system users/groups on the webserver and Active Directory users/groups in the web server's domain.
- Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure Active Directory): Claims-based management for cloud and on-premises applications. Redirects users to Entra ID for authentication.
- Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS): Implements claims-based federated identity for Single Sign-On (SSO) across security and enterprise boundaries.
- Okta: Supported authentication provider.
- OpenID Connect: Supported authentication provider.
Overview of Data Hub capabilities
Data Hub is a data warehouse automation tool designed for business users. It provides ready-made data models based on ERP expertise, automating the process of relating, aggregating, and denormalizing data from thousands of tables into meaningful labels. Key capabilities include:
- Production-ready analytics for Power BI and a native reporting engine.
- Specialized support for financial reporting.
- Automatic generation of cubes or tabular models from the warehouse to ensure governance of analytic calculations and hierarchies.
- Business-user configurable historical reporting.
Overview of the Model Data API
The Model Data API allows users to query the model warehouse using an ODATA API via HTTP GET requests. The target warehouse is specified in the URL path, and data retrieval can be controlled using ODATA query operators such as filter and sort.Overview of Data Hub authentication providers
Data Hub supports multiple authentication providers to manage user access. The default provider is Windows Active Directory. Other supported providers include:
- Active Directory (Windows): Recognizes local system users/groups on the webserver and Active Directory users/groups in the web server's domain.
- Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD): Provides claims-based user and group management; users are redirected to Entra ID for authentication.
- Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS): Implements claims-based federated identity for single sign-on across security boundaries.
- Okta: Identity provider for authentication and user/group management. Note: Nested groups are not supported.
- OpenID Connect: Generic support for providers like Azure AD B2C or Auth0. Note: This provides authentication only; it does not support searching for users/groups via the provider. Only users who have previously signed in will appear in search results.
Overview of Publication Rules
Publication rules enable the distribution of groups of Data Hub resources when specific events occur. These rules can be predefined to save time and are triggered by standalone 'Event' resources that specify the conditions for distribution.Overview of Rich Text resources
Rich text resources are reusable text objects used to provide supporting information, summaries, or non-analytical content (such as executive summaries or company logos) within other resources like dashboards and report packs. The editor supports text, images, calculated members, and named sets.Overview of the Data Hub REST connector
The Data Hub REST connector is a generic connector used to connect to 3rd party REST APIs. Unlike other connectors, it does not enumerate endpoints automatically. To extract data, users must define a JSON collection of endpoints (typically created in Postman) and upload it to the connector.Overview of Report Packs and Publication Rules
Data Hub provides two specialized resource types for document distribution:
- Report Packs: A document-focused alternative to dashboards that generates PDF documents.
- Publication Rules: Define the schedules and triggers used to automatically 'publish' resources.
Overview of the Reckon One Data Source connector
The Reckon One Data Source is a connector for Reckon One online accounting software. It accesses data exposed by the Reckon One API V2 and is used within Data Hub to extract accounting data.Configure Azure SQL Database firewall access for Data Hub
Data Hub requires access through the Microsoft Azure firewall. It is recommended to provide database-level access rather than server-level access. To grant access, log into the Microsoft Azure portal, navigate to the SQL Database Overview screen, open the Query editor, and execute thesp_set_database_firewall_rulecommand using the Data Hub IP addresses. Changes may take up to 5 minutes to take effect.sp_set_database_firewall_rule @name = N'<rule_name>' , @start_ip_address = '99.255.255.99' , @end_ip_address = '99.255.255.99' ;
