https://docs.speedvitals.comDocumentation for SpeedVitals, a web performance optimization platform. Includes guides on using the Web Vitals, TTFB, and Batch Web Vitals tools, understanding results like Waterfall Charts and LCP Elements, and configuring tests with custom locations, networks, and HTTP versions. It also covers Real-User Monitoring (RUM) dashboards, field data analysis, and the SpeedVitals browser extension.
What's inside SpeedVitals
- The SpeedVitals Batch Test allows users to perform Web Vitals tests in bulk. It is essentially a repeated version of the standard Web Vitals Test and is available at https://speedvitals.com/batch-test.
Understand and access Field Data in SpeedVitals
SpeedVitals provides Field Data collected from the Chrome User Experience Report (CrUX), representing real-world performance from users who opted into Chrome usage statistics. This differs from Lab Data (Lighthouse), which is simulated. Field Data can be accessed by selecting the Field Data Tab on the Performance Report. Data is categorized by device (Mobile & Desktop) and scope (Current Web Page vs. Entire Domain).Navigate and re-run tests in the SpeedVitals Test Summary
The Test Summary section is located at the top of the Performance Report. It provides an overview of the test results, the tested page URL, the test configuration, and a screenshot of the page based on the selected device viewport. To re-run a test using the current settings, click the Retest button (identified by a curved arrow icon) located next to the 'SpeedVitals Performance Report' heading.Choose a SpeedVitals subscription plan
SpeedVitals provides five tiers of plans based on user needs and website scale:
- Free: For beginners in speed optimization; includes essential features.
- Starter: For intermediate users focused on website speed testing and monitoring.
- Growth: For web developers, freelancers, and small-scale agencies. This is the primary Real-User Monitoring (RUM) plan.
- Pro: For web performance experts and SEO/Web optimization agencies; provides advanced Real-User Monitoring.
- Ultimate: For enterprises, large teams, and high-traffic websites.
Analyze website performance using the SpeedVitals Waterfall Chart
The SpeedVitals Waterfall Chart is a performance optimization tool used to visualize the loading sequence of a web page. It allows developers to list the order of requests, analyze the performance of individual resources, inspect Request and Response Headers, and identify performance bottlenecks. The tool includes search and sorting features to quickly locate specific requests within the resource list.Analyze resource distribution using Resource Graphs
The Resource Graphs section in SpeedVitals reports provides two donut charts to visualize the distribution of assets on a webpage: 'Total Size of Each Resource Type' and 'Count of Each Resource Type'. These charts help developers identify potential performance bottlenecks by highlighting which resource types occupy the most space, indicating where minification and compression efforts should be prioritized. The center of the donut charts displays the total resource count and the total size of the web page.Use the SpeedVitals RUM Live Dashboard for real-time monitoring
The Live Dashboard provides a high-level overview of website health by combining Web Performance and Web Analytics data. It updates automatically, making it suitable for use as a full-screen monitoring display. Key data points include Web Vitals distribution and Core Web Vitals pass/fail status.Understand Real-User Monitoring (RUM) and its benefits
Real-User Monitoring (RUM) tracks and analyzes the experiences of actual users interacting with a website. Unlike synthetic monitoring, which uses simulated environments, RUM provides data on Core Web Vitals, user locations, device types, browser usage, and overall user satisfaction based on real traffic.
Key advantages of using SpeedVitals RUM include:
- Integration of Web Analytics and Web Performance into a single tool.
- Immediate data access, removing the 28-day wait associated with Google's CrUX data.
- Comprehensive coverage of all website traffic, whereas CrUX data only represents a small subset of visitors.
Simulate real-world devices in SpeedVitals
SpeedVitals simulates real-world device specifications by applying specific Performance Throttling, Network Throttling, and Screen Size settings. These tests are simulations (similar to Google PageSpeed Insights) and are not performed on physical hardware. CPU throttling is calibrated based on actual device performance relative to server hardware, and network connectivity is modeled after average user demographics for each device.Understand Core Web Vitals and their impact on SEO
Core Web Vitals are a subset of Web Vitals that measure three critical aspects of User Experience: Loading, Layout Stability, and Interactivity. These metrics are used as Search Engine Ranking Factors following the Google Page Experience Update. To 'Pass' the Core Web Vitals assessment, a web page's 75th percentile of page loads must achieve a 'Good' score across all three metrics. Google measures these using real-world field data from Chrome users via the Chrome User Experience Report (CruX Report).Analyze page rendering behavior with Page Load Snapshots
Page Load Snapshots visualize the loading behavior of a page over time, allowing developers to identify performance bottlenecks and the sequence in which elements are rendered. The snapshots include labels for critical performance milestones, including:
- Time to First Byte (TTFB)
- First Contentful Paint (FCP)
- Speed Index
- Largest Contentful Paint (LCP)
- Time to Interactive (TTI)
These snapshots can be used to determine rendering priority. For the LCP element, it is recommended to use preloading or priority hints to increase its importance.
