https://docs.snatoolbox.comAn all-in-one Social Network Analysis (SNA) platform for designing surveys, collecting data, and generating interactive reports. The platform features a Designer Studio for survey creation, role-based access control (RBAC) for user management, and a Report Workspace with specialized widgets for network visualizations, trend indicators, and video content.
What's inside SNA Toolbox
- Keyframes in the Networks module allow users to create visual snapshots of the current network view and presentation state. A keyframe captures the exact state of the network, including visible nodes, edges, filters, and styling. These snapshots can be played sequentially as presentation slides to demonstrate network structures and data insights. Note that all changes in the Keyframes panel apply to the current view and must be saved to be permanent; otherwise, they are discarded when leaving the Networks module.
Overview of the Insight Panel Widget
The Insight Panel Widget automatically analyzes data to surface 'insights'—meaningful findings organized into categories. It scans data based on user-defined rules and can display rich content including text, charts, and tables. When connected to other widgets (like network visualizations), it can show context-specific insights for the currently selected item (e.g., a specific node or person).Overview of SNA Toolbox system modules
SNA Toolbox uses a set of integrated modules to manage the lifecycle of social network analysis, from data collection to insight generation:
- Surveys: Used to create and manage questionnaires for primary data collection.
- Nodes: Represents the subjects of the study; these serve as the fundamental building blocks of social networks.
- Relationships: Defines the specific types of connections that can exist between nodes.
- Actions: Allows for the configuration of automated triggers based on survey responses or node conditions.
- Networks: Provides the tools for network visualization and data analysis to interpret patterns and relationships.
- Reports: Used to generate and share comprehensive reports derived from the collected data and network analysis.
Overview of Network Visualization Filters
The Filters panel controls the visibility of nodes and edges in the network view based on attributes or metadata. There are three primary filtering modes:
- Hiding Filters: Removes non-matching items from the view; only matching items remain.
- Dimming Filters: Fades non-matching items while keeping them visible; matching items remain prominent.
- Highlighting Filters: Emphasizes matching items; non-matching items remain visible but less prominent.
Important: Changes are applied to the current view after clicking Apply. To persist changes, you must click Save, otherwise changes are discarded when leaving the Networks module.
Overview of the Chart Widget
The Chart Widget is used to visualize report data (such as survey, network, and analytics data) as interactive charts and graphs. It supports various chart types including Line, Bar, Pie, Scatter, Radar, Boxplot, Gauge, Pictorial Bar, Word Cloud, and Treemap to present trends, distributions, and aggregations within reports and dashboards.Overview of the SNA Toolbox Interactive Report
The SNA Toolbox generates an interactive, read-only report based on student survey responses. It transforms data into network diagrams, wellbeing scores, charts, tables, and insight panels. The report is structured around three levels of analysis:
- Year-level views: Aggregated scores and network data to identify broad cohort patterns.
- Individual student views: Detailed profiles including wellbeing scores, social connections, emotional indicators, and follow-up flags.
- Thematic dashboards: Focused analysis on specific areas such as masculinity attitudes, student culture, peer influence, and comment sentiment.
Overview of the Reports module
The Reports module is the final stage of the SNA Toolbox project lifecycle. It is used to create and manage Report Workspaces, which serve as central hubs for designing, configuring, and sharing interactive reports and dashboards. These workspaces transform project data—including network visualizations, analytics results, insights, and actions—into structured, actionable insights for stakeholders and decision-making.Overview of Network Partitions
Partitions in the Networks module allow users to create subsets of network data by selecting specific node types and applying filters. This enables targeted visualization and analysis of relevant node groups and their relationships. A 'Default Partition' containing all nodes and relationships is provided by default. Note that there is no autosave feature for partition changes; users must click Save regularly.Overview of the Year Level Dashboard
The Year Level Dashboard provides a cohort-wide view of student wellbeing and social dynamics for an entire year group. It is designed to surface patterns, strengths, and areas of concern across the cohort rather than focusing on individual students. Key use cases include:
- Assessing year-level wellbeing scores across three domains.
- Exploring student connections via friendship, influence, and other relationship types.
- Identifying socially central or isolated students.
- Finding students most nominated for friendship, disrespect, influence, or feedback.
- Accessing quick wellbeing summaries for individual students.
Overview of the SNA Toolbox School Sample Project workflow
The School Sample Project demonstrates the full lifecycle of a project in SNA Toolbox using a fictional school (Maplewood Primary School). The workflow follows these sequential modules:
- Nodes: Defining student node types and importing cohorts.
- Surveys: Creating survey workspaces, designing network nomination surveys, and managing invitations.
- Networks: Running analytics and exploring network visualizations.
- Relationships: Reviewing connections generated from survey responses.
- Reports: Building slide decks with charts, network widgets, and insight panels for leadership.
- Actions: Creating follow-up actions for students identified via analysis or survey rules.
Overview of SNA Toolbox platform
SNA Toolbox is an integrated Social Network Analysis (SNA) platform designed to collect, analyze, visualize, and operationalize relationship-based data. It is used to analyze social structures such as friendship networks, support networks, collaboration patterns, leadership/influence structures, cohesion, and isolation indicators. It is primarily designed for cohort-based environments like schools, research programs, and public health initiatives.Overview of SNA Toolbox school administration phases
The SNA Toolbox school administration process is divided into four primary phases for coordinators, administrators, and IT personnel:
- Project Access: Managing school staff roles, inviting colleagues, and controlling platform access permissions.
- Getting Ready: Preparing the IT environment (network and email settings) and adding students to the platform as nodes via import or manual entry.
- Data Collection: Monitoring live survey progress, tracking student participation, resending invitations/reminders, and managing follow-up actions.
- School Report: Analyzing results via the Year Level Dashboard, Student Dashboard, Action Dashboard, Student Comment Analysis, and Year vs Benchmark comparisons.
