https://docs.nanocosmos.de/Documentation for nanoStream's live streaming ecosystem, including nanoStream Webcaster for browser-based WebRTC ingest (supporting WHIP and JWT), nanoStream Cloud for stream management and analytics, and NanoPlayer (H5Live) for playback, including version 5.0.13 and v6 migration guides.
What's inside nanoStream
- Stream alerts provide insights into live stream performance, specifically focusing on 'first mile' ingest issues (from the ingest point via the ISP to the nearest nanoStream ingest server). Alerts are activated for all organizations by default. They help identify quality and performance issues, estimated causes, and possible solutions to improve the streaming experience.
Overview of nanoStream Visual Enhancements
Visual Enhancements allow you to modify the visual output of a live stream by creating a derived 'substream'. This ensures the original ingest stream remains unaffected. Supported enhancements include Overlays (watermarks) and Delays. These relationships are visible in the Visual Enhancements tab of the parent stream or in the Stream Overview page header.
Visual Enhancements can be accessed via the following dashboard locations:
- Stream Overview:

Overview of Bintu Stream Tags
Stream Tags are free-form, human-readable labels used to organize, structure, and search streams in Bintu. They allow users to group streams by department, location, event, or purpose and can be used to power automated workflows such as routing, monitoring, and auditing. Bintu does not enforce a fixed naming scheme, but recommended patterns include simple labels (e.g.,marketing), hierarchical labels (e.g.,studio/west), or key/value structures (e.g.,location:berlin).Overview of Media Over QUIC (MOQ) in nanoStream H5Live Player
Introduced in nanoStream H5Live Player Version 5.0, Media Over QUIC (MOQ) is a transport protocol based on QUIC designed for real-time media streaming. It leverages WebTransport, WebCodecs, and WebAudio/Canvas APIs to provide ultra-low latency, improved stability on unstable networks, and reduced impact from packet loss compared to TCP, HLS, or DASH.Overview of nanoStream Cloud Dashboard features
The nanoStream Cloud Dashboard is a centralized web-based hub for managing live video streaming workflows. Key capabilities include:
- Organization Overview: A high-level view of streaming infrastructure and activity.
- Adaptive Bitrate (ABR) Transcoding: Ability to create transcoded streams that adjust quality based on viewer network conditions.
- Secured Playback: Support for jwt-token-based security to control stream access.
- Stream Monitoring: Real-time playback verification and health status monitoring.
- Integration: Generation of embeddable code snippets to integrate the nanoPlayer into external web pages.
Overview of nanoStream Cloud capabilities
nanoStream Cloud is a platform and API for real-time, ultra-low-latency live video streaming designed for interactive business applications. It provides a global Content Delivery Network (CDN), Adaptive Bitrate (ABR) playback, and real-time analytics to ensure high Quality of Experience (QoE) and Quality of Service (QoS). Key features include sub-second delay, token-based authentication, and geo/IP-blocking security.Overview of nanoStream Guardian security features
nanoStream Guardian is a security extension for nanoStream Cloud that provides reactive security to block unwanted traffic from accessing live streams. It acts as a real-time protection layer to prevent illegal rebroadcasting, unauthorized embedding, and DDoS-like traffic spikes. Key features include:
- Blocking individual IP addresses or full IP ranges (CIDR masks).
- Blocking or allow-listing referrer domains.
- Fast propagation: new connections are blocked within a maximum of 6 minutes.
- Organization-wide application of rules.
- Automatic 24-hour expiry for IP blocks; referrer blocks persist until manually removed.
Overview of nanoStream Cloud capabilities
nanoStream Cloud is a global CDN and service for interactive live streaming with ultra-low latency (approximately 1 second). It allows users to connect live sources via encoders to the cloud and play them back on any HTML5 browser using the nanoStream H5Live Player. It supports global ingestion and playback, providing dashboards, APIs, and code snippets for integration.Overview of nanoStream Dashboard capabilities
The nanoStream Dashboard is a centralized web-based hub for managing live video streaming workflows. It provides tools for streaming professionals and content creators to monitor stream health, manage content, and integrate players into external websites.Overview of Live Processing capabilities
Live Processing adds advanced functionalities to video streams beyond basic delivery. Available features include:
- Recording: Capturing live sessions for later viewing.
- Thumbnails: Automatic generation of static preview images.
- Motion Clips: Generation of short GIF-based clips of the stream.
- Replay: Capabilities to watch previous sessions and use a Clipping Tool to create and share specific segments of a live session.
Overview of Bintu Custom Webhooks
Bintu custom webhooks allow developers to integrate backend logic into the nanoStream Cloud ingest workflow. Instead of using fixed access rules, Bintu forwards every publish attempt to a configurable HTTPS endpoint for runtime validation. These webhooks are synchronous and blocking; Bintu waits for the server's response to decide if a stream is allowed to be published. This is primarily used for custom authentication, per-stream access control, and auditing.Overview of nanoStream Cloud and bintu
nanoStream Cloud is a platform for ultra-low-latency live streaming. Its core is bintu, a stream management system that connects live encoders, the Content Delivery Network (CDN), and playback clients. bintu allows users to create and manage live streams, retrieve ingest and playback URLs, apply security policies, and enable features like recording, transcoding, and captions.
