What's inside MesoLive

  1. Overview of MesoLive trading and monitoring platform

MesoLive is a platform designed for trading and monitoring Options Trading Strategies created in MesoSim. It connects to a user's brokerage account to provide real-time market data, PnL tracking, and signals based on the logic of the deployed strategy, while allowing the user to maintain control over their trades.
  2. Overview of the Today view calendar

The Today page (https://mesolive.io/today) is a calendar-style dashboard used for day-to-day monitoring of deployed strategies and positions. It allows users to perform daily reviews of active and upcoming events, jump directly to specific positions or build flows, and maintain a split-screen view of the calendar and a market chart.
  3. Understand the role of the MesoLive Agent

MesoLive requires a companion application called the MesoLive Agent. This agent acts as a secure bridge that connects to your brokerage via API and shares account and position data with the MesoLive service.

Depending on your environment, you can install the Agent using:

    • The GUI app for Windows and macOS.
    • The CLI for Docker, Linux, or servers.
  4. Manage Leg Selection Constraints in MesoLive

While MesoLive supports the concept of leg uniqueness during selection, it ignores the Settings.Core.LegSelectionConstraint value defined in the Strategy Definition. Instead, this is controlled via the Leg Selection dropdown in the Portal UI during Build/Adjustments. Currently, the UI only offers FullyUnique and UniqueInPosition options.
  5. Understand MesoLive Signals and their types

Signals in MesoLive are advisory notifications that alert operators when a position meets criteria defined in its Strategy Definition. They are used to determine if a trade should be exited or adjusted, though the Operator remains responsible for the actual execution.

There are two types of signals:

    • Exit Signals: Triggered when a position meets criteria for exiting the trade.
    • Adjustment Signals: Triggered when a position meets criteria for adjustments, such as updating variables or adding/removing legs.
  6. MesoLive Feature Overview

MesoLive is designed to facilitate the seamless trading of strategies developed in MesoSim and provide monitoring tools for discretionary trading positions. Key capabilities include:

    • Position Management: Enter, adjust, and liquidate systematic strategies.
    • Real-time Monitoring: Track systematic and discretionary positions via Risk Graphs, PnL Graphs, and Greeks.
    • Automatic Tracking: Automated monitoring of Positions, Strategies, Underlyings, and Accounts.
    • Risk Analysis: Detailed risk metrics available at the Position, Strategy, and Underlying levels.
    • Trade Visualization: Calendar view for upcoming and historical trades.
    • Safety: Support for multiple data feeds for redundancy.
    • Testing: Paper Trading mode for risk-free strategy and workflow testing.
  7. Understand MesoLive position tracking

Position tracking in MesoLive synchronizes the Portal view with broker account data, including positions, executions, and derived metrics such as PnL and greeks. The system is designed to avoid 'silent tampering'; any manual control taken over tracked positions is explicitly indicated in the UI.
  8. Use the Events page for system auditing and troubleshooting

The Events page (https://mesolive.io/events) provides a server-side audit log of operator actions and system updates. Each event record contains the Event Time (UTC), Event Type (structured enum), a human-readable Message, and optional references to Account, Strategy, Position, or Leg IDs, as well as PnL. It is used to troubleshoot fills, PnL changes, and tracking issues, though it should supplement rather than replace broker-native logs.
  9. Understand the difference between MesoSim and MesoLive

MesoSim and MesoLive serve different purposes in the trading workflow:

    • MesoSim is a simulation engine that executes automatically using historical data and simulated fills.
    • MesoLive is an execution platform that evaluates rules to produce signals. However, the actual execution (placing orders, confirming fills, and applying adjustments) is performed by an Operator or an API Client. Consequently, many rules in MesoLive are advisory rather than deterministic and automatic.
  10. Monitor and respond to signals in the Portal UI

MesoLive provides several ways to monitor signals in the user interface:

    • Top Navigation Indicator: A blinking indicator in the top nav signals active alerts or evaluation errors. Clicking it opens the Position Signals overview dialog.
    • Audio Alerts: The browser can play an alert sound when new signals are detected (must be enabled in browser settings).
    • Position Details Dialog: On a specific position's details page, clicking the signals summary opens a dialog showing the status (true/false/failed) of Exit and Adjustment conditions.
  11. Understand Paper Trading in MesoLive

Paper Trading allows users to run the full MesoLive workflow using a virtual account while utilizing real-time market data from connected providers (IBKR and/or TastyTrade). It is used to validate Agent setups, practice the trade lifecycle (deploy → build → execute → monitor → adjust/exit), benchmark Strategy Definitions, or use MesoLive with brokers that lack direct integration via manual order entry.

    Key differences from live trading:

    • Execution: In live trading, orders are routed to the broker and fills are tracked automatically. In paper trading, fill prices must be entered manually during the Paper Trade step.
    • Commissions: Commissions for paper trades are determined by the specific paper account settings.
