https://docs.groundcontrol.comTechnical documentation for Ground Control satellite IoT and tracking devices, including the RockBLOCK (9602, 9603), RockSTAR Mk3, RockFLEET, and RockREMOTE Mini. Includes guides for AT commands, firmware updates, web services for SBD messages, and the RockCONNECT and RockCONNECT IoT apps.
What's inside Ground Control
- YBlog is the standard map interface for YB3 and YB3i devices. It displays a user's current position, historical tracks (series of recorded positions over time), and events (defined segments within a track). The interface provides detailed positional data including Latitude and Longitude. YBlog can be accessed via a unique URL or embedded into an external website.
Overview of GNSS Tracking Hardware
Ground Control offers several GNSS tracking devices powered by the Iridium satellite network for global connectivity:
- RockAIR: Designed for light aircraft, rotorcraft, and vehicles. Uses both GSM and Iridium networks and features a quick-release mount.
- RockFLEET: A waterproof, rugged device for marine and rough terrestrial environments. Uses Iridium and optional GSM networks.
- RockSTAR: A handheld, waterproof, and rugged device providing two-way messaging capabilities globally.
Overview of RockCONNECT IoT app capabilities
The RockCONNECT IoT app allows users to manage and configure compatible Ground Control devices via Bluetooth LE. Key capabilities include:
- Configuring a subset of device settings.
- Viewing device status and support information.
- Displaying a map-based position for both the device (via APNT or GNSS) and the smart device running the app.
Overview of Cloudloop IoT Management Platform
Cloudloop is a comprehensive platform for managing IoT devices, subscriber accounts, data flow, network operations, and messaging. It provides the following core capabilities:
- API: Integration of device management, data flow, and tracking into custom applications.
- Burst: One-to-many satellite data broadcasting using Iridium Burst technology for geographic-based messaging.
- Data Management: Organization of IoT devices ('Things') into groups and management of data collection via message boards and pre-configured destinations.
- Device Manager: Remote monitoring of device health and execution of over-the-air (OTA) software updates.
- Network Operations Centre: Real-time network monitoring, diagnostics, firewall rule management, and deep packet inspection.
- Subscription Manager: Management of subscriber accounts, plans, contracts, and activation/deactivation of services.
- Tracking: Real-time asset tracking including coordinates, speed, and historical movement timelines with terrain mapping.
Overview of Cloudloop Device Manager (CDM)
Cloudloop Device Manager (CDM) is a web-based platform for remote monitoring, management, and troubleshooting of satellite-connected devices. It provides real-time visibility into device status, connectivity, and operational health to reduce the need for physical site visits. CDM integrates with Subscription Manager for fleet and device management.Overview of Cloudloop Tracking capabilities
Cloudloop Tracking is a web-based map interface used to monitor the real-time location, speed, status, and heading of assets (people, vehicles, aircraft, or ships). It provides global visibility when paired with Rock satellite tracking devices and supports both live monitoring and historical movement analysis.Overview of the CORE platform capabilities
The CORE platform is a web-based management system for controlling Rock devices (RockSTAR, RockFLEET, and RockAIR) via satellite. Key capabilities include:
- Real-Time Tracking: Monitor asset, vessel, or vehicle positions on an interactive map.
- Device Management: Configure tracking intervals, alerts, messaging preferences, and update settings over-the-air (OTA).
- Two-Way Messaging: Send and receive messages/reports; supports SMS and email notifications based on predefined criteria.
- Geofencing & Alerts: Create virtual boundaries and set alerts for entry/exit, power loss, temperature changes, or motion detection.
- Reporting: Access historical movement data and messaging logs for analysis and compliance.
- User Management: Manage accounts with granular permission levels to control access to device settings and sensitive data.
Overview of Cloudloop Data features
Cloudloop Data provides advanced monitoring and automation capabilities for channel data, specifically offering graph-based monitoring and the ability to trigger actions based on specific channel values. The core functionality is split into two main areas: Insights (for data visualization and monitoring) and Control (for implementing actions based on data thresholds).Overview of Iridium Messaging Transport (IMT)
Iridium Messaging Transport (IMT) is an Iridium Certus service that allows terminals to send and receive messages up to 100kb in length. It serves as a cost-effective and data-efficient alternative to IP transport. RockREMOTE integrates IMT with the MQTT protocol, allowing local devices to publish messages to an MQTT broker which are then automatically packaged and transmitted via IMT.Overview of Iridium Certus 9704 and IMT
The Iridium Certus 9704 is an ultra-slim, surface-mount module designed for industrial IoT. It exclusively supports IMT (Iridium Messaging Terminal), a cloud-native, server-device messaging format. IMT serves as the successor to Iridium's SBD (Short Burst Data) service, offering faster throughput and support for significantly larger messages up to 100kB.Overview of RockREMOTE IoT Solution
RockREMOTE is a robust communications solution designed for remote IoT applications in both fixed and mobile environments. It integrates a feature-rich terminal with the Iridium Certus 100 satellite network and LTE cellular connectivity to ensure remote assets remain connected via a hybrid routing approach (using cellular for lower cost and satellite for resilience).Overview of A-PNT and Burst Messaging Hardware
Specialized tracking and messaging hardware for high-security or specific data needs:
- RockFLEET Assured (A-PNT Tracking): Provides GPS/GNSS spoofing and jamming protection for merchant vessels. Features two-way satellite messaging via IMT and optional integrity status for assured positioning.
- RockSTAR BURST (Iridium BURST): A rugged, waterproof device with zero RF footprint and secure message encryption. It integrates with the Cloudloop Burst one-to-many Data Broadcast Service.
