https://docs.gridmo.ioDocumentation for the Gridmo software platform, featuring a comprehensive library of error and warning codes, reference guides for Nodes and Plotting, and configuration templates such as AEMO Generator Performance Standards (GPS). The platform integrates with electrical engineering software including PSS®E, PowerFactory, PSCAD™, and DSATools™ TSAT.
What's inside Gridmo
- The PSS®E Static Node performs static study simulations powered by PSS®E's Power Flow and Short Circuit modules. It is primarily used for investigating thermal loading of assets during contingencies or setting up cases for dynamic studies (e.g., creating a case for a specific active power set point).
Overview of PowerFactory smiby Thévenin representation
PowerFactory smiby is a standardized Thévenin equivalent representation provided as a PowerFactory Global template object (
_.IntTemplate_). It is used to add a Thévenin equivalent to the point of connection (POC) of a generating system in a SMIB model.Unlike some other representations, gridmo models the Thévenin equivalent impedance in a separate branch called
ZTHEVrather than within the internal source impedance of the generator. This design ensures that the Thévenin voltage (VTHEV) remains directly accessible. When gridmo is used to set site-specific Short Circuit Ratio (SCR) and X/R ratios, the impedance of theZTHEVbranch is adjusted automatically.Overview of AEMO System Strength Impact Assessment (SSIAG) Template
The SSIAG template (v7) is designed for the Australian (AU) market to quantify the impact of inverter-based generators and loads on the grid. It assesses a plant's capability to ride through low Short Circuit Ratio (SCR) operating conditions to determine the 'Withstand SCR'.
Technical Requirements:
- Required Software: PSS®E and PSCAD™.
- Methodology: Based on AEMO SSIAG Version 2.2 (1 July 2024), but updated to align with the 'Withstand SCR Methodology Review' Technical Note (Version 2.1, 28 February 2025).
Key Limitations:
- Does not cover all SSIAG requirements, such as calculating '∆AFL' at the connection point.
- Successful ride-through tests for a given SCR do not guarantee stability under all modes; additional studies (e.g., AEMO GPS template) may be required.
Overview of the PSCAD™ Node
The PSCAD™ Node performs electromagnetic transient (EMT) dynamic study simulations using PSCAD™ third-party software. It is primarily used for completing dynamic studies (such as validating Generator Performance Standards) and benchmarking plant models against other software like PSS®E.Overview of CEA Technical Standards (CTU Tests) compliance tests
The CEA Technical Standards for Connectivity to the Grid (CTU Tests) template (v3) is designed for renewable energy generators in India to demonstrate compliance with CEA TSCG and IEGC regulations. It requires PSS®E and PSCAD™ software and covers the following tests:
Test Relevant Regulation Clause Reactive power capability test CEA TSCG: Part-II.B2(1) Capability to operate in frequency range: 47.5 Hz to 52 Hz CEA TSCG: Part-II.B2(2) Capability to provide rated output in frequency range of 49.5 Hz to 50.5 Hz CEA TSCG: Part-II.B2(2) Low voltage ride through CEA TSCG: Part-II.B2(3) Active power setpoint and rate of change of active power CEA TSCG: Part-II.B2(4)(i) Frequency response test CEA TSCG: Part-II.B2(4)(ii,iii), IEGC: 30(10) Demonstration of immediate real power primary frequency response CEA TSCG: Part-II.B2(4)(ii,iii) High voltage ride through CEA TSCG: Part-II.B2(7) Overview of PSCAD™ termy
termy is a PSCAD™ Definition provided by the gridmo software platform that enables gridmo to interface with a PSCAD™ Workspace. It contains the metering components of the smiby block and is primarily used for terminal-level metering. It can be placed between two PSCAD™ nodes to meter specific locations.Overview of DSATools™ PSAT Node
The DSATools™ PSAT Node performs static study simulations powered by the Powerflow & Short circuit Assessment Tool (PSAT) from Powertech Labs. It is primarily used for investigating thermal loading of assets under various contingencies and setting up cases for dynamic studies (e.g., creating specific active power set points).Overview of PSS®E smiby Thévenin equivalent representation
PSS®E smiby is a tool that provides a standardized Thévenin equivalent representation to help set up PSS®E models in gridmo. It is designed to prevent common errors related to Thévenin source impedance (such as abnormally high impedance).
In gridmo, the Thévenin equivalent impedance is modeled specifically in the branch
ZTHEVrather than within the internal source impedance of the generator. This ensures that the Thévenin voltage (VTHEV) remains easily accessible. The impedance of theZTHEVbranch is later adjusted by gridmo based on site-specific Short Circuit Ratio (SCR) and X/R values. By default, the source is set to be infinitely strong (negligible impedance).Overview of the Overlay builder
The Overlay builder automates the configuration of a Loop: Start Node and one or more Data Nodes based on input data files. It is designed for tests that require looping through multiple files, shifting the x-axis so events occur at a common time (e.g., t = 5 seconds), and performing plotting or analysis for each file. Common use cases include:
- Comparing site commissioning tests with power systems modeling software results to verify model accuracy.
- Comparing site data from before and after system updates (e.g., firmware updates) to highlight performance impacts.
Overview of NGESO System Oscillation Assessment template for IBRs
This gridmo template implements Section 1.1 and Section 1.2.1 of the National Grid ESO's 'System Oscillation Assessment of Inverter Based Resources (IBRs)' requirements. It is designed for use with PSCAD™ software. Note that the template currently does not include Section 1.2.2, Section 1.3 (Active frequency scan), or Section 1.4 (Eigenvalue method).Western Power DMAT Template Overview
The Western Power Dynamic Model Acceptance Tests (DMAT) template (v1) is designed for use with PowerFactory and PSCAD™.
Important Note: As of August 2026, this template is not based on formal Western Power requirements. Instead, it adapts AEMO's DMAT requirements (originally for PSS®E and PSCAD™) for execution in PowerFactory, anticipating that Western Power will leverage the AEMO NEM DMAT framework for the WEM DMAT.
Use DSATools PSAT and TSAT Nodes
Introduced in v1.14.0, Gridmo now includes two new DSATools nodes: the PowerFlow & Short circuit Assessment Tool (PSAT) and the Transient Security Assessment Tool (TSAT).
