Documentation for the Geo Web, a decentralized land registry and geospatial publishing platform. It covers core contracts including RegistryDiamond, PCOLicenseDiamond, and BeaconDiamond, as well as the use of EIP-2535 Multi-Facet Proxies, MUD framework, IPFS, and Ceramic for onchain content and land parcel management.

What's inside Geo Web

  1. Overview of Core Contract Standards and Protocols

The GeoWeb network utilizes several key smart contract standards and protocols to manage extensibility, scalability, and payments:

    • Diamonds Multi-Facet Proxy (EIP-2535): Used for smart contract systems that require the ability to be extended after deployment.
    • Beacon Proxy: Used for the scalable management of multiple smart contract instances.
    • Superfluid: A protocol implemented for streaming token payments.
  2. Overview of the Geo Web foreclosure and reclamation system

The CFAReclaimerFacet manages the foreclosure system for Geo Web parcels. When a parcel's Network Fee stream is canceled or runs dry, a 7-day Dutch auction is initiated. The auction price starts at the previous For Sale Price and linearly decreases to 0 over the 7-day period.

There are two ways to resolve a foreclosure:

    1. Previous Licensor Reclaim: The previous licensor can reclaim the parcel by setting a new For Sale Price and opening a corresponding Network Fee stream.
    2. Market Participant Acquisition: Other participants can take control of the parcel by paying the current auction price to the previous licensor and establishing their own For Sale Price and payment stream.
  3. Overview of the Geo Web Content Layer architecture

The Geo Web utilizes a decentralized content layer to avoid the pitfalls of client-server architectures. The default content layer is transitioning to be on-chain using MUD, while IPFS and Filecoin are used as complementary solutions for peer-to-peer storage and retrieval of large media files.
  4. Overview of PCOERC721Facet for Geo Web land parcels

The PCOERC721Facet contract implements the ERC-721 Non-Fungible Token Standard specifically for Geo Web land parcels. Following the EIP-2535 Diamonds specification, the logic for ERC-721 functions resides within this facet, while the actual state is maintained in the RegistryDiamond contract.
  5. Overview of the Geo Web Network

The Geo Web is an open geospatial information network deployed on Optimism. It allows publishers to anchor digital content (such as 3D objects, images, videos, and audio) to specific real-world point-locations. Users access this content via general-purpose spatial browsers on devices like smartphones, smartwatches, and smartglasses, based on their geolocation and field-of-view rather than traditional URLs.
  6. Overview of Digital Property Rights in the Geo Web

The Geo Web implements digital land property rights to create horizontal scarcity in geospatial augmented reality. This design decision is intended to prevent the chaos of infinite digital duplication and avoid the emergence of extractive digital monopolies by using a transparent market to fund public goods and sustain decentralized governance.
  7. Overview of Augments in PCO World

An Augment is a package defined as an onchain smart contract that can be installed onto a specific parcel in the PCO World. It acts as a template defining a set of entities and components that should be installed together. Because they are onchain, anyone can verify that an Augment was installed according to the rules defined by the developer.
  8. Overview of BeneficiarySuperApp

The BeneficiarySuperApp contract is responsible for accumulating network funds from the Geo Web's land market, including claim fees, network fees, and rejection penalties. These funds are initially managed and transferred out in batches by a community multi-sig. The contract is built using Superfluid's Super App construction and also tracks the last deletion time of network fee payment streams for parcels.
  9. Overview of the CFAPenaltyBidFacet auction mechanism

The CFAPenaltyBidFacet manages the auction system for land parcel licenses in the Geo Web. Unlike a pure Harberger tax system with instantaneous transfers, this mechanism provides the current licensor an exclusive window to respond to a rival bid.

    • Accepting a bid: Transfers the parcel to the bidder, returns collateral to the bidder, and transfers sale proceeds (adjusted for network fees) to the former licensor.
    • Rejecting a bid: The licensor retains the parcel but must pay a penalty (a percentage of the incoming bid value).
  10. Overview of GeoWebParcelFacet land parcel management

The GeoWebParcelFacet contract extends basic ERC-721 functionality to handle Geo Web-specific land parcel requirements. It uses an EVM-optimized global grid system where each coordinate (Geo Web Coordinate) represents approximately 20m² of Earth's surface.

    Key constraints include:

    • Coordinates can only belong to one parcel at a time.
    • Currently, all parcels must be rectangles, defined by the southwestmost coordinate and its longitude/latitude dimensions.
    • Maximum dimensions are 200 coordinates in each direction, with a total maximum area of 3,000 coordinates.
    • State is maintained within the RegistryDiamond contract.
  11. Overview of Streaming Quadratic Funding (SQF)

Streaming Quadratic Funding (SQF) is an implementation of quadratic funding (QF) that replaces discrete donations and end-of-round payouts with continuous per-second donation streams and real-time quadratic matching streams. This approach removes time discontinuities, allowing matching to occur perpetually every second, which amplifies the impact of public goods funding and improves the experience for both donors and grantees.
