https://docs.bloom.hostGuides and technical documentation for Bloom Host game server hosting, covering billing management, dedicated server configuration, and game-specific setup for Rust, Palworld, Terraria, and Hytale.
What's inside Bloom Host
- TShock is a third-party server software for Terraria that provides advanced functionality not found in the vanilla server, including server-side characters, anti-cheat systems, and community management tools. Its functionality can be further extended through the use of plugins.
Understand swap memory usage on Bloom servers
Swap is virtual memory stored on a disk rather than physical RAM. While slower than RAM, Bloom enables it by default to cover JVM overhead (such as that required by Aikar's Flags), preventing servers from crashing due to lack of physical memory. Disabling swap may provide a slight performance boost (e.g., better MSPT or capacity for more players) but requires manual management of JVM overhead to prevent boot failures or freezes.Using GrimAC and Vulcan Anticheat together
GrimAC and Vulcan Anticheat are often used together for a comprehensive prevention strategy. GrimAC is best suited for Movement Hacks (via its movement mirroring system) and Network Auditing (predicting correct packet order and compensating for latency), while Vulcan is typically used to cover combat-specific hacks.Understand why TCP MSS clamping is required for Bloom Host
When traffic reaches a server via Cloudflare Magic Transit, the effective path MTU is smaller than standard Ethernet. If TCP peers advertise the default MSS of 1460, packets may be dropped or fragmented, leading to flaky HTTP(S), slow downloads, or connection resets. To resolve this, the TCP MSS for IPv4 must be clamped to 1436 on SYN packets at the operating system level.Understand Bloom.host VPS service and support limits
Bloom.host VPS provides a virtual machine with a bare Linux Command Line Interface (CLI) and dedicated resources. It is an unmanaged service, meaning Bloom provides support only for service-level issues (networking, connectivity, and panel issues). They do not provide support for installing or fixing software inside the VPS. Users without Linux experience are encouraged to use Dedicated Minecraft Plans instead.Follow the Bloom documentation style guide for new pages
When creating new documentation pages, use the following mandatory sections (marked with
*) and structural guidelines to ensure consistency for Minecraft server owners:- Overview (*): A 2–4 sentence summary of the page's scope and limitations.
- Prerequisites: A checklist of requirements (e.g., Panel access, specific server software) needed before starting.
- Important Definitions: A table defining technical jargon (e.g., TPS, MSPT) to keep the main body lean.
- Main Sections (*): Use
##(H2) for top-level sections and###(H3) for sub-topics. Avoid going deeper than H4. - Step-by-Step Instructions: Use numbered lists with specific commands, file paths, or button names, and include the expected outcome for each step.
- Comparisons: Use tables to compare different options (e.g., Beginner vs. Advanced paths).
- Images: Store images in
/static/and reference them via relative paths with descriptive alt text.
Install Windows Server 2022 on VirtFusion VPS
To install Windows Server 2022 on a VirtFusion VPS, follow these steps:
- Insert OS Image: In the VPS Panel, go to the Media tab and insert the Windows Server 2022 Evaluation image.
- Access Console: Go to the Overview tab and open the VNC Console (located under the hostname). If VNC is disabled, enable it in the Options tab first.
- Initial Setup: Proceed with the Windows installation via VNC until you reach the 'Select Driver' step.
- Load Storage Drivers:
- While at the driver selection step, go back to the Media tab and eject the Windows image (do not change the VPS power status).
- Insert the VirtIO-Driver image.
- Return to VNC, click Load Driver, and select the 2k19 SCSI (non-passthrough) option.
- Complete Installation: Once the driver is installed, re-insert the Windows Server 2022 image in the Media tab and finish the installation process.
Note: If the VPS does not boot to Windows automatically after installation, move 'Windows Boot Manager' to the top of the boot order in the BIOS.
Hardware requirements for ARK: Survival Evolved servers
ARK: Survival Evolved has significant resource requirements. Ensure your server meets these minimums to avoid crashes or failure to start:
- RAM: Minimum 4GB for the default map with no players. 6GB is recommended by the developers. DLC maps (e.g., Genesis 2) may require over 13GB to start.
- Storage: At least 30GB of storage is recommended. Base server files occupy approximately 20GB; DLC maps require additional space.
Renew Bloom services early via the Billing Portal
Bloom clients can manually pay for their next subscription invoice before the official due date using the Billing Portal. This process allows you to secure the renewal early without changing the established billing cycle.
Steps to renew early:
- Navigate to the Early Renewal page.
- Locate the eligible service and click Add to Cart.
- If multiple services are eligible, you may add all of them to the cart.
- Click Checkout and complete the payment process.
Paste text into the VirtFusion VNC console
Standard VNC does not support direct clipboard synchronization (it only transmits raw key presses and mouse movements). However, the VirtFusion VNC Console includes a built-in paste feature accessible via the console's interface controls to allow sending text to the virtual machine.Connect to a Terraria server using DuckPanel
To connect to a Terraria server hosted on Bloom Host, follow these steps:
- Log into the DuckPanel and navigate to your server.
- In the 'Console' tab, locate and copy the value in the 'IP Address' field.
- Launch Terraria and select 'Multiplayer' from the main menu.
- Select 'Join via IP' and choose your player profile.
- When prompted for the address, paste the IP address without the trailing port (the part before the colon).
- Click 'Accept'. When prompted for the port, enter the port number without the leading colon.
- Click 'Accept' again. Enter the server password if one has been configured.
Important Constraint: If the server is set to 'Journey' difficulty, you must use a Journey character to connect.
Install ARK: Survival Evolved on Bloom Host
To install ARK: Survival Evolved, navigate to the game panel, select your server, and click the server split button.
- To change an existing server: Click the three dots next to the server name, select Change Server Type, set the Server Category to No Supports Servers, and select ARK Survival Evolved as the Server Type. Click Reinstall to begin the download (approx. 20GB).
- To create a new split server: Fill in the Split Server form on the right side of the server split page to create a new instance with ARK installed.
