What's inside Axure RP

  1. Overview of Axure RP Repeater widgets

Repeaters are used to display repeating patterns of widgets, such as tabular data or product listings. A repeater consists of two parts: the item (the collection of widgets that are repeated) and the dataset (the table of data that controls the content of each repetition).

Repeaters can be added via the Dynamic section of the Default widget library (as a table or card) or created by selecting existing widgets on the canvas, right-clicking, and selecting Create repeater.

  2. Overview of Axure Cloud MCP Integration

The Axure MCP (Model Context Protocol) server allows MCP-compatible AI tools to access content from whiteboards and document files hosted on Axure Cloud. This enables AI agents to use your designs as context for tasks like code generation, analysis, and documentation. The integration is currently in Alpha and provides read-only access; AI tools cannot modify your files.
  3. Overview of Axure RP Style Effects

Style effects are alternative widget styles automatically applied when a widget enters a specific state in a web browser. When the triggering state ends, the widget reverts to its base styling. Common use cases include adding underlines to links on hover, changing button colors when clicked, or altering border colors for focused or error-state text fields.
  4. Overview of Dynamic Panels in Axure RP

A dynamic panel is a container widget that holds other widgets in sets called "states." Only one state is visible at a time. They are uniquely capable of being dragged or swiped in a web browser and can be pinned to a fixed position, making them ideal for carousels, slideshows, navigation headers, and sidebars. The visible state is controlled using the Set panel state action.
  5. Overview of Axure RP MCP Server

Axure RP includes a built-in, experimental MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that provides AI tools with read-only access to currently open .rp files. This allows AI agents to use your design as context for code generation, analysis, and documentation. Because the server runs locally, only AI applications installed on the same computer can connect; browser-based AI tools cannot. The server is separate from the Axure Cloud MCP server, which handles whiteboards and cloud-hosted documents.
  6. Understand the structure of Axure RP interactions

Interactions in Axure RP define the dynamic behavior of widgets and pages. Every interaction consists of three hierarchical components:

    1. Events: Triggers based on page or widget behaviors (e.g., 'Click or tap'). When a trigger occurs, the event 'fires'.
    2. Cases: Ordered lists of actions attached to an event. When an event fires, the associated cases are executed. Cases can be managed manually or triggered automatically via conditional logic.
    3. Actions: The actual changes that occur in the browser (e.g., 'Open Link') in response to a case being executed.
  7. Create a reusable navigation menu using components

To create a navigation menu that can be managed from a single location and applied across multiple pages in Axure RP:

    1. Create the target pages in the Pages pane (e.g., Home, About, Contact, Help).
    2. On one page, create the navigation widgets (e.g., buttons) and label them to match the page names.
    3. Select all navigation widgets, right-click, and choose Create component. Name the component (e.g., 'Navigation header').
    4. To apply the menu to other pages: Right-click the component in the Components pane, select Add to pages, check the desired pages, and specify the coordinates for placement.

Any changes made inside the component are automatically reflected on all pages where the component is used.

  8. Configure Slack notifications for Axure Cloud

Connect Axure Cloud to Slack to receive notifications about discussion activity. You can set up notifications for an entire workspace or for individual projects.

    Steps to configure:

    1. Sign in to app.axure.cloud or the Axure Cloud desktop app.
    2. Click your name (top-left) and select Account settings.
    3. Select Notifications from the sidebar.
    4. Scroll to the Slack notifications section and click Add Slack notification.
    5. Select the desired workspace or individual project. You will be redirected to slack.com.
    6. Authenticate with Slack, select the target channel, and click Authorize.

    Management:

    • Change the target Slack channel by clicking the channel name in the notifications list.
    • Change the watched workspace or project by clicking the project name.
    • Remove a notification using the Delete (🗑️) button.
  9. Create URL redirects for project pages

Redirects are managed in the Advanced tab of the project Overview page. They can point old URLs to new ones (e.g., home to new-home). You can also redirect entire paths using a wildcard; for example, setting an Incoming URL of my-section/* and Redirect To my-new-section will redirect all pages within that path to a single page.
  10. Set a default or custom 404 page for a project

In the Advanced tab of the project Overview page in Axure Cloud, you can manage landing and error pages:

    • Default Page: Select a page to be displayed instead of start.html. To revert to the sitemap, add /start.html#p= or /index.html#p= to the URL.
    • Custom 404 Page: Select a page to display when a user reaches a URL that does not exist in the sitemap.
  11. Configure SAML Single Sign-On in Azure AD for Axure Cloud

After creating the application in Azure, configure the SAML settings to enable authentication:

    1. On the application's Overview page, click Get started on the Set up single sign on card.
    2. Select SAML as the sign-on method.
    3. In the Basic SAML Configuration section, click the Edit icon and provide the following:
      • Identifier (Entity ID): Use your instance's subdomain (https://[domain].axure.cloud) for hosted instances, or the IP address/hostname for on-premises installations.
      • Reply URL (Assertion Consumer Service URL): Use the Entity ID followed by /identity/consume (e.g., https://[domain].axure.cloud/identity/consume).
    4. In the SAML Signing Certificate section, download the Certificate (Base64).
    5. Copy the Login URL from the Set up Axure Cloud for Business section for use in the Axure Cloud configuration.
  12. Understand the Axure RP interface layout

The Axure RP interface consists of a central canvas surrounded by toolbars and instrument panes:

    • Canvas: The primary drag-and-drop area for arranging widgets. Supports custom colors, dimensions, grids, guides, and rulers.
    • Main and Style Toolbars: Used for arranging widgets, styling, publishing, and switching between selection, connector, and drawing modes.
    • Pages Pane: Used to add, remove, rename, and organize file pages.
    • Outline Pane: A searchable, sortable list of all widgets, components, and dynamic panels on the current diagram.
    • Libraries Pane: A resource for dragging widgets (buttons, images, text, shapes) onto the canvas. Allows switching libraries, loading additional libraries, and creating custom libraries.
    • Components Pane: Manages reusable sets of widgets.
    • Style Pane: Used to edit widget and page styling.
    • Interactions Pane: Used to add and edit interactive properties and events for the page or selected widgets.
    • Notes Pane: Used to add and edit widget and page notes.
    • Gallery View: Provides a high-level overview of all pages and components in the file.

Interface panes and toolbars can be toggled via the View menu.
