What's inside cache-cleaner

  1. Manage cache-cleaner keyboard shortcuts

The extension supports keyboard shortcuts to trigger actions without the UI. These are managed via the browser's built-in extension shortcut manager (e.g., chrome://extensions/shortcuts in Chrome or about:addons in Firefox).

    Default shortcuts:

    • Clear Site Cache: F4
    • Clear All Site Cache: F6
    • Open Popup: Alt+Shift+A
    • Open Options: Alt+Shift+O

Other actions like 'Clear Browser Cache', 'Open Side Panel', and 'Open Extension Panel' are available but not set by default.

  2. Configure the cache-cleaner Context Menu

The right-click context menu can be enabled or disabled in the extension options. Users can customize which specific items appear in the menu. If only one item is selected for display, the extension removes the submenu to provide direct access to that action.
  3. Use the cache-cleaner Side Panel and Extension Panel

The extension provides two additional panel views:

    • Side Panel: Can be toggled via keyboard shortcut or context menu. While it does not allow direct site cache clearing, it can toggle the popup to manage site cache and includes other popup features.
    • Extension Panel: A standalone pop-out window used exclusively for managing the global browser cache. It can be toggled via keyboard shortcut or context menu.
  4. Assign Keyboard Shortcuts for cache-cleaner

Keyboard shortcuts can be assigned to all cache clearing functions, as well as the activation of the popup and panels. Shortcut configuration is handled by the browser:

    • Google Chrome: Navigate to chrome://extensions/shortcuts
    • Mozilla Firefox: Use the browser's internal shortcut management (mzl.la/3Qwp5QQ).
  5. Use the cache-cleaner Toolbar Popup

The toolbar popup is the primary interface for the extension, accessible by clicking the extension icon in the browser toolbar (pinning may be required). It allows users to:

    • Toggle between showing all buttons or only Site/Browser buttons.
    • Set the default view to Site or Browser.
    • Adjust cache options on-the-fly.
    • View estimated cache size.
    • Access a Quick Options overlay.
  6. Configure site-specific cache clearing

When performing a 'Clear Selected Site Cache' action, you can choose which specific data types to remove for the current site. These settings determine what is cleared during a 'Selected' clear operation (as opposed to an 'All' clear, which removes everything).
  7. Configure global browser cache clearing

Global browser settings allow you to clear data across all sites. These are divided into site-scoped data (cleared for every domain) and browser-level data.
  8. Manage global site-scoped cache data

When performing a browser-wide cache clear, the following site-scoped options can be selected to be cleared across all domains:

    • Cookies: Signs you out of every site currently logged into.
    • Index DB: All IndexedDB databases across all sites.
    • Local Storage: Local Storage data from all sites.
    • Service Workers: All registered service workers across all sites.
  9. Configure cache clearing confirmation prompts

To prevent accidental data loss, you can enable confirmation prompts for specific actions. These prompts are ignored when using keyboard shortcuts or the context menu.

    Available confirmation toggles:

    • Site Cache: Prompt before clearing the selected site cache.
    • All Site Cache: Prompt before clearing all data types for the current site.
    • Browser Cache: Prompt before clearing the selected browser cache.
    • All Browser Cache: Prompt before clearing all browser data types across all sites.
  10. Configure the Cache Cleaner context menu

You can add a 'Cache Cleaner' submenu to the browser's right-click menu by enabling Show Context Menu. Individual items can be toggled on or off:

    • Clear Site Cache: Clears selected data types for the current site.
    • Clear All Site Cache: Clears all data types for the current site.
    • Clear Browser Cache: Clears selected data types across the whole browser.
    • Clear All Browser Cache: Clears all browser data types.
    • Open Popup: Opens the extension popup.
    • Open Side Panel: Opens the extension side panel.
    • Open Options: Opens the options page.

Additionally, enabling Show All Items on Toolbar Icon adds these same actions to the right-click menu of the extension's toolbar icon.

  11. Change the extension language

The extension supports multiple locales (including English, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish). To change the language, you must change your browser's primary language setting and then restart the browser.
