What's inside CenterScape

  1. Overview of CenterScape Alert Actions

Alert actions are instructions that trigger specific operations when an Alert is opened (triggered) or closed (cleared). A single threshold can be assigned an unlimited number of alert actions, which execute simultaneously. Supported action types include:

    • Email
    • File Transfer
    • HTTP Post
    • Logging
    • Serial Device Send
    • SNMP V1 Trap
    • SNMP V3 Trap
  2. Overview of the CenterScape JSON REST API

CenterScape provides a JSON-based REST API that allows developers to extract data, configure software settings, and manage assets or sensors (create, modify, and delete). The API is compatible with any software language that supports JSON and HTTP/S requests/posts. The CenterScape web user interface uses this same API for most of its server communications.
  3. Overview of RF Code Up Connect

Up Connect allows RF Code readers to communicate with upstream software (Zone Manager or CenterScape) even when the reader is located behind a firewall. It effectively 'punches a hole' through the firewall to establish a connection.

    Compatibility:

    • M200 readers: Requires firmware version 2.40 or later.
    • M250 readers: All firmware versions supported.

Important Constraint: Up Connect must be configured in both the reader and the CenterScape software using matching login credentials (Reader ID and Password), otherwise the connection will fail.

  4. Overview of A740 Rack Locator operation

The A740 Rack Locator is an infrared (IR) transmitting device used in IT data centers to provide rack-level precision for locating tagged assets. It transmits a unique 4-digit location code via IR pulses. IR-enabled tags detect these signals and include the location code in their RF beacons. These beacons are then processed by readers and reported to CenterScape/Zone Manager software to identify the asset's specific rack location.
  5. Overview of CenterScape Inventory Types

Inventory types are used to categorize assets that require physical location tracking. Available types include Blade Chassis, Blade Server, Network Equipment, Peripheral, Server, Storage, Employee, and Visitor. 'Equipment' and 'Person' can be used as general types. If tracking non-data center assets, it is recommended to create new types beneath the Inventory Types tree. Assets should be created using specific subtypes (leaf nodes) rather than the generic 'inventory' type.
  6. Overview of the A750 Room Locator

The A750 Room Locator provides room-level IR broadcasting for precise asset location detection. Unlike radio beacons, infrared (IR) signals are blocked by opaque objects like walls, allowing the system to favor IR signals over RF signal strength calculations to determine a more accurate location. The device is designed for permanent mounting on ceilings, cages, or other fixed structures.
  7. Overview of RF Code CenterScape Product Ecosystem

RF Code provides an automated, real-time asset management and environmental monitoring system for data centers. The ecosystem consists of the following core components:

    • CenterScape Application Server: The central hub for alerting, configuration, data storage, reporting, and mapping physical tags to asset objects.
    • CenterScape Web User Interface: The primary interface for configuring and interacting with the CenterScape system.
    • CenterScape Rest API: A JSON-based REST interface used for integrating CenterScape with external systems or automation workflows.
    • Zone Manager (CenterScape Core): Processes raw tag data from readers, manages reader firmware and connections, and sends coalesced data to the Application Server. A basic instance is typically included with the Application Server installation.
    • Readers: Network-installed hardware that receives beacons from RFID tags and forwards them to CenterScape Core. They support multiple simultaneous connections to different Core instances (e.g., production and dev).
    • Active RFID Tags: Hardware used for location detection or telemetry, including asset tags (standard and IR-equipped), dry contact sensors, fluid detectors, Rack PDU tags, and Temperature/Humidity sensors.
    • IR Locators: Room and Rack locators that broadcast infrared codes to provide high-precision location detection for IR-equipped tags.
    • Sentry: IP cameras designed for environmental monitoring in server rooms and edge IT locations.
  8. Overview of RF Code MQTT Bridge

The RF Code MQTT Bridge is a separately installed software package that interfaces with the Zone Manager layer of RF Code software to publish sensor data to an MQTT Broker using a publish/subscribe model. It can be installed on the same host as CenterScape, on a host with a Zone Manager, or any host with network connectivity to both the MQTT Broker and the Zone Manager.
  9. Overview of RF Code RPDU Monitoring Tags

RF Code provides two types of tags to unidirectionally monitor power metrics from supported Rack Power Distribution Units (RPDUs). These tags act as relays to transport information to Zone Manager and CenterScape via 433Mhz RF.

    • R175 Tags: Communicate with the RPDU via its Ethernet interface. This creates a physically sealed network between the tag and the RPDU, avoiding the need for security patches or certificate management and keeping the RPDU off the broader network.
    • R170 Tags: Utilize the serial port interface of select RPDUs to monitor power metrics.
  10. Overview of CenterScape Asset Tracking and Monitoring

CenterScape by RF Code is a scalable software package used to integrate RF Code Sensors and Asset tracking hardware. It is primarily used for tracking and monitoring assets and environmental conditions in datacenter environments, as well as custom applications in industrial, hospital, and office settings. Key capabilities include real-time auditing by comparing assigned vs. detected asset locations, automated alerts for location or environmental changes, and full asset life cycle management (financial info, service dates, contractual info) via a central database.
  11. Manage infrastructure using the CenterScape Admin Console

The Admin Console is the primary interface for managing monitors and reporting on the infrastructure required to establish management over assets and sensors. It features a system-wide settings configuration and a dashboard specifically designed for infrastructure monitoring. Users can identify they are in the Admin Console by the label 'CenterScape Administration:' in the header. A link to switch to the User Console is located at the bottom left of the interface.
