  4. Understand the response fields for Showreel Media

When retrieving specific showreel media via the API, the response contains details about the video or audio asset. Key fields include id, type (either ShowreelVideo or ShowreelAudio), name, and duration (in seconds).

For ShowreelVideo types, the proxies array provides MP4 (H.264) transcoded links in various qualities: sd (480p), hd (720p), and full_hd (1080p). Legacy proxies web_quality and portrait may also be present.

For ShowreelAudio types, the asset field contains the audio file link (typically AAC or MP3 codecs).

Note: The skill field is deprecated; use the skills array instead, which follows the NAME#VALUE format (e.g., languages#deutsch).

  5. Understand Actor Profile response fields

The Actor Profile API response includes detailed information about the actor's representation, visibility, and professional history.

    Talent Agency Connections

Agency details are provided in the talent_agency_connections array. Each entry contains:

    • talent_agency_id (integer): ID of the agency.
    • talent_agency_employee_id (integer): ID of the specific employee.
    • agency_profile_url (string): The actor's profile URL on the agency's own website.
    • talent_agency_name (string): Name of the agency.
    • categories (Array): Representation areas (e.g., acting_agency, advertising, artist_management, model_agency, people_agency, pr, voice_agency, young_talent_agency).
    • regions (Array): Geographical regions of representation. Valid values are available via the /attributes endpoint.
    • connection_type (string): Either primary_agency or secondary_agency.

    Visibility and Media

    • attribute_visibility (hash): Specifies if attributes like age, acting_age, gender, ethnic_appearances, figures, and working_permits are public or private (visible only to verified casting professionals).
    • profile_visibility (string): Overall profile visibility (public or private).
    • showreel_ids (Array): IDs of associated showreels.
    • showreel_medium_ids (Array): IDs of showreel media connected to showreels, credits, or skills.

    Professional History

    • vita (hash): A collection of structured credits grouped by type (e.g., education, television, theatre). Entries are sorted by in_development status, date range (year_to/year_from descending), user-defined position, and ID.

    Deprecation Notices

Avoid using the following top-level fields; use the talent_agency_connections array instead:

    • agency_profile_url $ ightarrow$ use talent_agency_connections[].agency_profile_url
    • talent_agency_id $ ightarrow$ use talent_agency_connections[].talent_agency_id
    • representative.id $ ightarrow$ use talent_agency_connections[].talent_agency_employee_id
    • representative.name $ ightarrow$ use the talent_agency#employees endpoint for first/last names.
  6. Showreel media response schema

The response for a specific showreel media request returns an object containing metadata about the asset, including the director, role, year, duration, and available video proxies (SD, HD, and Full HD).

      }
    }
  7. Retrieve localized 'About Me' text for actor profiles

The about_me field is localized. By default, the API returns the English (en) version. To retrieve the text in a different language, use the locale query parameter (e.g., ?locale=de). If the requested locale is unavailable, the field returns null. For rich text, use about_me_html, which returns sanitized HTML (supporting tags like <a>, <b>, <div>, <img>, etc.).
    GET /actor-profiles?locale=de
  8. Retrieve a specific casting call by ID

Retrieve detailed information about a specific casting call, including production details, casting director, locations, and associated roles.

Note: The filmmakers_url returned in the response points to the web page for the casting call. This URL requires the user to be authenticated and authorized on the Filmmakers platform to be accessed; it can be used as a redirect_to payload in an SSO login flow.

    curl "https://www.filmmakers.eu/api/v1/casting_calls/{id}" \
      -H "Authorization: Token token=API_KEY"
  9. Retrieve specific showreel media by ID

Use the GET /api/v1/showreel_media/{id} endpoint to retrieve detailed information about a specific showreel media asset. The required {id} can be obtained from the showreel_medium_ids array field returned by the showreels endpoint. Authentication requires a Token in the Authorization header.
    curl "https://www.filmmakers.eu/api/v1/showreel_media/{id}" \
      -H "Authorization: Token token=API_KEY"
  10. Obtain an OAuth Access Token via Client Credentials

For clients with OAuth Authorization enabled, you can fetch an access token by sending a POST request to the token endpoint. This requires a CLIENT_ID and CLIENT_SECRET. The grant_type must be set to client_credentials.
    export CLIENT_ID="your-client-id-goes-here"
    export CLIENT_SECRET="your-client-secret-goes-here"

    curl -s -X POST "https://www.filmmakers.eu/oauth/token" \
               -H "Content-Type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded" \
               --data-urlencode "grant_type=client_credentials" \
               --data-urlencode "client_id=$CLIENT_ID" \
               --data-urlencode "client_secret=$CLIENT_SECRET" \
               --data-urlencode "scope=public"
  11. Handle actor profile picture ordering and display

The pictures array in an actor profile is returned in desktop/landscape order. To display pictures for mobile/portrait contexts, sort the array by the portrait_position field.

    Key picture fields:

    • position: Base gallery order before display-specific adjustments.
    • landscape_position: Position in desktop order (the default API return order).
    • portrait_position: Position in mobile/portrait order.
    • main_picture: Boolean; true if this is the primary picture for desktop (landscape_position: 1).
    • main_picture_portrait: Boolean; true if this is the primary picture for mobile (portrait_position: 1).

To access the image, use the url field or an entry from the versions array on the selected picture object.
