Follow these steps to apply Betterfox about:config tweaks to your Firefox profile:

1. Backup your profile: Create a backup of your current Firefox profile before proceeding.
2. Download user.js: Download the official user.js file (Right click > Save Link As…).
3. Review Overrides: Review the Common Overrides and Optional Hardening documentation to decide if you need to modify the file.
4. Locate Profile Folder:
   • Open Firefox.
   • Type about:profiles in the URL bar and press Enter.
   • Find the profile you wish to use and click Open Folder in the Root Directory section.
5. Apply File: Move the downloaded user.js file into that folder.
6. Restart: Restart Firefox to apply the changes.

Betterfox Aqua is a specialized user.js configuration designed specifically for the Waterfox browser.

Important Considerations:

• Stability: Waterfox has known long-term issues where it may fail to load certain internal settings or reset preferences after a restart.
• Maintenance: Fork-specific files like Betterfox Aqua are side projects and may not be updated every release. If you encounter issues, it is recommended to use the standard Firefox user.js instead.
• Release Cycle: Waterfox follows the Firefox ESR (Extended Support Release) cycle.

While several browsers incorporate Betterfox settings, they often modify them in ways that reduce effectiveness. For optimal results, you should manually apply the user.js file even when using Firefox-based forks such as:

After installing Betterfox and restarting Firefox, it is recommended to complete these two steps for enhanced security and privacy:
