  1. Install the development version of vdemdata

    master

    The vdemdata package is an ongoing project. To install the latest development version directly from GitHub, you must first have the devtools package installed in R.

    Prerequisites:

    • An updated version of R.
    • Updated system dependencies: rlang, xcode (macOS), rtools (Windows), or r-base-dev (Linux).

    If installation fails, you can contact the V-Dem Institute at contact@v-dem.net or use the provided .tar.gz file.

  3. Explore V-Dem variables and indicators

    The package provides several tools for searching, inspecting, and visualizing V-Dem data:

    Variable Management

    • var_info(): Prints basic information about a specific variable as defined in the V-Dem codebook.
    • find_var(): Searches for variables using keywords.
    • fill_vars(): Fills election-specific variables within the V-Dem dataset.

    Visualization

    • plot_indicator(): Generates plots of V-Dem indicators for exploratory data analysis.
