What's inside Theta

  1. Launch and stake to a Theta Guardian Mainnet node

    master

This guide provides instructions for launching and staking to a guardian node on the Theta Mainnet. Depending on your technical preference, you can run a guardian node using one of three methods:

    1. Graphical User Interface (GUI): For users who prefer a visual interface.
    2. Command Line Interface (CLI): For users who prefer terminal-based management.
    3. Google Cloud Marketplace (GCP): For deploying via the Google Cloud Platform marketplace.

You can monitor the latest blocks and transactions on the Theta mainnet using the blockchain explorer.

  2. Stake to a Guardian Node via Web Wallet

    master

To stake THETA to your Guardian Node using a desktop browser, follow these steps:

    1. Access Wallet: Go to the Theta Web Wallet.
    2. Select Network: Under the "Theta Wallet" logo, ensure "Mainnet: THETA mainnet (Default)" is selected.
    3. Unlock: Unlock your wallet using your keystore, seed phrase, or hardware wallet.
    4. Navigate to Stakes: Click the "Stakes" tab in the menu, click "Deposit Stake", and then select "Guardian Node".
    5. Enter Node Details: In the Guardian Node Holder (Summary) field, enter the text string provided by your Guardian Node app.
    6. Set Amount: Enter the amount of THETA you wish to stake.
      • Minimum Stake: 1,000 THETA.
      • Transaction Fee: You must have at least 1 TFUEL in your wallet to cover the fee.
    7. Confirm: Review the details, enter your wallet password, and click "Confirm & Deposit Stake".

Hardware Wallet Note (Nano Ledger): If using a Nano Ledger, open the Ethereum app and ensure the settings are configured to:

    • "Contract data Allowed"
    • "Debug data NOT Displayed"
  3. Stake to a Guardian Node via Mobile Wallet

    master

To stake THETA to your Guardian Node using the Theta Wallet mobile app, follow these steps:

    1. Check Version: Ensure you are using Theta Wallet version v2.3 or later (specifically v2.0.0+ for iOS/Android) to support staking.
    2. Select Network: Under the "Theta Wallet" logo, use the dropdown menu to select "Mainnet: THETA mainnet (Default)". (If the menu is unresponsive, restart the app).
    3. Navigate to Stakes: Unlock your wallet, tap the "Stakes" tab at the bottom, and tap "Deposit".
    4. Identify Node: In the Guardian Node Holder (Summary) field, tap the QR code icon to scan the QR code from your Guardian Node app. Alternatively, if running the node via command line, copy and paste the summary string directly into this field.
    5. Set Amount: Enter the amount of THETA to stake and tap "Next".
      • Minimum Stake: 1,000 THETA.
      • Transaction Fee: You must have at least 1 TFUEL in your wallet to cover the fee.
    6. Confirm: Complete the transaction as prompted.
  4. Install the Guardian Node (Linux)

    master

To install the Guardian Node on Linux, you need to download the theta and thetacli binaries, a network snapshot, and the configuration file. It is recommended to run the node within a screen or tmux session on a Linux server to ensure it continues running after you log off.

Note on OS parameters: When downloading binaries via the provided URLs, use os=linux for Linux, os=macos for macOS (supports 10.15.x Catalina only), or os=windows for Windows.

    # Start a screen session to keep the node running
    screen -S theta_mainnet

    # Create directory structure
    mkdir ~/theta_mainnet
    cd ~/theta_mainnet
    mkdir bin
    mkdir -p guardian_mainnet/node

    # Download binaries, snapshot, and config
    curl -k --output bin/theta `curl -k 'https://mainnet-data.thetatoken.org/binary?os=linux&name=theta'`
    curl -k --output bin/thetacli `curl -k 'https://mainnet-data.thetatoken.org/binary?os=linux&name=thetacli'`
    wget -O guardian_mainnet/node/snapshot `curl -k https://mainnet-data.thetatoken.org/snapshot`
    curl -k --output guardian_mainnet/node/config.yaml `curl -k 'https://mainnet-data.thetatoken.org/config?is_guardian=true'`

    # Set executable permissions
    chmod +x bin/theta
    chmod +x bin/thetacli

    # Enter the bin directory
    cd bin/
  5. Checkout and compile the Theta Guardian source code

    master

Clone the release branch of the theta-protocol-ledger repository into your $GOPATH/src/github.com/thetatoken/theta directory. Once cloned, navigate to $THETA_HOME, enable Go modules, and run make install to compile the source code.

git clone --branch release https://github.com/thetatoken/theta-protocol-ledger.git $GOPATH/src/github.com/thetatoken/theta

    cd $THETA_HOME
    export GO111MODULE=on
    make install
  6. Deploy a Guardian Node on Google Cloud Marketplace

    master
To launch a Guardian Node VM, navigate to the Google Cloud Marketplace launcher page: https://console.cloud.google.com/launcher/config/theta-marketplace-public/theta-guardian-node. On the dashboard, click the Launch button. You can use the default settings or customize them according to your requirements. Once configured, click Deploy to begin the deployment process.
  7. Stake to the Guardian Node

    master

To become a full Guardian Node, you must stake at least 10,000 Theta tokens using the Theta Wallet.

    Steps:

    1. Ensure the node is synced (./thetacli query status returns syncing: false).
    2. Retrieve the node fingerprint using ./thetacli query guardian (the Summary field).
    3. Follow the staking instructions in the GUI Guide using the fingerprint.

Once staking is successful, the node will begin broadcasting guardian votes for checkpoint blocks (blocks where height % 100 == 1). You can verify this by watching the node logs for DEBUG [guardian] Boardcasting guardian vote messages.

  8. Change VirtualBox Desktop screen resolution

    master

If you need to adjust the display resolution within your Ubuntu VirtualBox environment:

    1. Navigate to Applications -> Settings.
    2. Select the resolution option. Warning: Do not set the resolution to your physical monitor's native resolution, as this may cause the virtual machine to freeze.
    3. Click Apply to save changes.

Troubleshooting: If the Apply button is not visible, double-click the Display header and drag the window to the left to reveal it.
