What's inside Statistical Thinking for the 21st Century

  1. Understand the Galton Height dataset structure

    master

The galton_height dataset is based on Francis Galton's 1885 study regarding the relationship between parental heights and the heights of their adult children. The dataset contains 898 cases, where each case represents an adult child.

    Data Schema

Each record in the dataset includes the following variables:

    • Family: An identifier for the family (labeled 1 to 205).
    • Father: The father's height in inches.
    • Mother: The mother's height in inches.
    • Gender: The gender of the child (M for male, F for female).
    • Height: The height of the child in inches.
    • Kids: The number of children in the child's family.

Note: The family labeled 205 in this dataset corresponds to the family originally labeled 136A in Galton's original study.
