What's inside PyExifTool

  1. How PyExifTool works with ExifTool batch mode

    master

PyExifTool uses the exiftool.ExifTool class to communicate with the exiftool command-line application.

Instead of launching a new process for every single query, the library runs the command-line tool in batch mode (using the -stay_open option). This allows a single instance of the exiftool process to be launched once and reused for many subsequent commands or metadata extractions, making it significantly more efficient for processing multiple files.

  2. Install PyExifTool

    master

PyExifTool requires an existing installation of Phil Harvey's exiftool command-line application (version 8.40 or higher is recommended to support the -stay_open batch mode option).

PyExifTool supports Python 2.6+ and 3.x on Windows and Linux.

You can install the module using setup.py:

    python setup.py install [--user|--prefix=<installation-prefix>]
