What's inside Chime TTS

  1. What is Chime TTS?

    main
Chime TTS is a Home Assistant integration designed to eliminate latency between notification chimes and Text-To-Speech (TTS) audio. Instead of using separate playback actions which cause lag due to cloud generation and processing, Chime TTS locally combines the chime and the TTS audio into a single, seamless audio file on your Home Assistant device before playback.
  2. Use the Chime TTS Notify Platform

    main

Chime TTS implements a Home Assistant notify platform named chime_tts.

This allows you to create reusable notification profiles. You can define these profiles either:

    1. Via the Sidebar Panel: Use the Chime TTS management interface in the Home Assistant sidebar to create and manage profiles.
    2. Via YAML: Define notification profiles directly in your Home Assistant configuration for use in automations and scripts.
  3. Quick Start with Chime TTS

    main

To set up Chime TTS, follow these steps:

    1. Installation: Install the integration via HACS (Home Assistant Community Store) or through a manual installation.
    2. Add the Integration: Add Chime TTS to your Home Assistant instance via the Integrations menu.
    3. Additional Requirements: Ensure you have a TTS platform (like Google Translate TTS, Nabu Casa, etc.) configured in Home Assistant and check for any player-specific requirements for your media players.

After installation, you can manage defaults, chimes, and logs via the Chime TTS sidebar panel in Home Assistant or through the Settings button on the integration page.

  4. Use Chime TTS Actions in Automations and Scripts

    main

Chime TTS provides four primary actions that you can call within Home Assistant automations or scripts:

    • chime_tts.say: Generates and plays combined audio (chimes + TTS) on one or more media players.
    • chime_tts.say_url: Generates the combined audio file and returns a public URL or media-source identifier without triggering playback.
    • chime_tts.replay: Repeats the most recent Chime TTS playback request.
    • chime_tts.clear_cache: Removes all generated audio files from the local cache.

Detailed parameter documentation for these actions can be found in the official documentation.
