  1. Overview of Nimrod Research Tools

    main

Nimrod provides four specialized research tools for Claude via the Model Context Protocol (MCP). These tools are designed to provide ranked evidence and token-efficient markdown instead of raw SEO-heavy search results or raw HTML.

  2. Connect Nimrod to Claude.ai or Claude Desktop

    main

For a zero-install setup in Claude.ai or Claude Desktop, use the hosted MCP endpoint:

    1. Navigate to Settings → Connectors.
    2. Select Add custom connector.
    3. Paste the following URL: https://nimrod.orchis.ai/mcp.
    4. Sign in with your email to complete the connection.
  3. Install Nimrod Desktop (Local MCP Server)

    main

Nimrod Desktop is a locally installed MCP server that provides six research skills, a deep-research agent, and search-coach hooks. It is recommended for power users as it runs on your own machine for privacy.

Download the appropriate binary from the Releases page and follow the platform-specific instructions:

    Windows

    • For Claude Desktop: Use nimrod.mcpb. Double-click the file and paste your key.
    • For Claude Code: Use nimrod-desktop.exe. Run nimrod-desktop setup, then add it to Claude Code:
claude mcp add nimrod -- path\to\nimrod-desktop.exe

    macOS

    1. Download nimrod-desktop-macos (Universal: Apple Silicon + Intel).
    2. Make it executable: chmod +x nimrod-desktop-macos.
    3. Remove the quarantine flag (required as it is not yet Apple-signed): xattr -d com.apple.quarantine nimrod-desktop-macos.
    4. Run setup and then add it to Claude Code using the Windows method above.

    Linux

    1. Download nimrod-desktop-linux.
    2. Make it executable: chmod +x nimrod-desktop-linux.
    3. Run setup and then add it to Claude Code using the Windows method above.
  4. Connect Nimrod to Claude Code (Hosted)

    main

To add the hosted Nimrod MCP server to Claude Code, use the claude mcp add command with an Authorization header containing your API key.

claude mcp add nimrod --transport http https://nimrod.orchis.ai/mcp \
      --header "Authorization: Bearer nmk_your_key"
