Magento 2 Data Migration Tool

Before starting a migration using the Data Migration Tool, ensure the following requirements are met:

• System Setup: A Magento 2 system must be installed that meets official system requirements. The topology and design should match or exceed the existing Magento 1.x system.
• Cron Jobs: Do not start Magento 2 cron jobs before the migration is complete.
• Database Backup: Back up or dump your Magento 2 database immediately after installation.
• Network Connectivity: The migration tool must have network access to both the Magento 1.x and Magento 2 databases. Ensure firewall ports are open to allow communication between the tool and the databases, and between the databases themselves.
• Code Migration: Magento 1.x extensions and custom code must be migrated to Magento 2 separately (e.g., using the Code Migration Toolkit or contacting providers).

To install the tool via GitHub, you must be logged in as a user with write privileges to the Magento 2 file system (or the web server user). Run these commands from the Magento 2 root directory:

1. Add the GitHub repository to your composer configuration.
2. Require the specific version of the tool.
3. Enable the Magento Data Migration Tool module.

Note: The version of the migration tool must match the version of your Magento 2 installation (e.g., if using Magento 2.4.4, install version 2.4.4 of the tool).

To install the tool from the official Magento repository, follow these steps from your Magento installation directory:

3. When prompted for authentication, use your public key as the username and your private key as the password.
4. Enable the module using the Magento CLI.

The Data Migration Tool supports the following source versions:

Magento Open Source:

• 1.6.x, 1.7.x, 1.8.x, 1.9.x

Magento Commerce:

• 1.11.x, 1.12.x, 1.13.x, 1.14.x

Open Source to Commerce Migration: If migrating from Magento Open Source to Magento Commerce, the supported source versions are 1.6.x, 1.7.x, 1.8.x, and 1.9.x.
