https://github.com/adefossez/seewav

An animation generator that creates MP4 video files visualizing audio waveforms. It provides a CLI to customize video framerate, colors, bar count, dimensions, and playback timing, requiring Python 3.7+ and ffmpeg with libx264 and aac codec support.

What's inside SeeWav

  1. Install SeeWav

    master

Install SeeWav using pip3. Ensure you have Python 3.7+ and ffmpeg installed on your system with libx264 and aac codec support.

    System Dependencies (ffmpeg):

    • macOS (Homebrew): brew install ffmpeg
    • Ubuntu: sudo apt-get install ffmpeg
    • Anaconda: conda install -c conda-forge ffmpeg
    pip3 install seewav
  2. Configure SeeWav CLI options

    master

The seewav CLI provides several flags to customize the appearance and behavior of the generated MP4 animation:

    FlagDescription
    -r, --rate RATEVideo framerate.
--stereoCreate 2 waveforms for stereo files.
-c COLOR, --color COLORColor of the bars as r,g,b in [0, 1].
    -c2 COLOR2, --color2 COLOR2Color of the second waveform as r,g,b in [0, 1] (for stereo).
--whiteUse white background. Default is black.
-B BARS, --bars BARSNumber of bars on the video at once.
-O OVERSAMPLE, --oversample OVERSAMPLELower values will feel less reactive.
-T TIME, --time TIMEAmount of audio shown at once on a frame.
-S SPEED, --speed SPEEDHigher values means faster transitions between frames.
-W WIDTH, --width WIDTHWidth in pixels of the animation.
-H HEIGHT, --height HEIGHTHeight in pixels of the animation.
-s SEEK, --seek SEEKSeek to time in seconds in video.
-d DURATION, --duration DURATIONDuration in seconds from seek time.
    usage: seewav [-h] [-r RATE] [--stereo] [-c COLOR] [-c2 COLOR2] [--white]
                  [-B BARS] [-O OVERSAMPLE] [-T TIME] [-S SPEED] [-W WIDTH]
                  [-H HEIGHT] [-s SEEK] [-d DURATION]
                  audio [out]
  3. Use the SeeWav CLI to generate waveform animations

    master

Run the seewav command followed by the path to your audio file. You can optionally specify an output file path. By default, the output is saved as out.mp4.

    seewav AUDIO_FILE [OUTPUT_FILE]
